Slightly off subject, but aside from Rahn and the usual set of film characters, how many other Jedi were able to "fade" into the Force? I know of one, Twi'lek Jedi knight Daeshara'cor, killed during the Yuuzhan Vong War, and I am still at a loss as to how she could have done so. Yoda died years before she was even born.

Well it has to be extremely rare in any case, since Yoda didn't seem to recall any similar events at the end of ROTS. And he was a Jedi for 800 years.

Actually, I always just thought if Anakin was born entirely of the force, and thus part of it, then it would make sense that he could retain his identity despite not know exactly how.

I don't know if it has been ret-conned since but Nejaa Halcyon (Corran Horn's biological grandfather) faded upon death.

But he was supposed to have died after the clone wars but before the Purge. A chronological impossibilty in the RotS continuity seeing as the former event took place later than the latter.

Did Yoda forget about Jedi Master Qu Rahn?

Troubled and confused about how Jedi such as Anakin Skywalker, Jerec, and Ventor could turn to the dark side of the Force, Rahn made the dangerous journey to Dagobah to visit Yoda. Rahn hoped that Yoda's wisdom would help to give clarity to the thoughts that were troubling him. Instead of a reassuring conversation, Yoda merely spoke enigmatically about a planet, on which was located a "valley of Jedi souls". Yoda bestowed upon Rahn the rank of Jedi Master, giving him a gold lightsaber in the process and sending him on his way, but not before teaching Rahn the ability to live on after death as a Force ghost. Although Rahn was baffled by both the new knowledge and the weapon Yoda gave him, Rahn accepted it and vowed "to protect the lightsaber as it would him".

If it hasn't, it probably will. While Yoda doesn't specifically say Qui-Gon is the first or only Jedi to learn this ability he is shown in the ROTS novelization as just learning about it. If any other Jedi had already learned the ability I'm sure they would have shared it with other Jedi and more than likely the council.

What bothers me is that the only reason they retconned Rahn's story and made him visit Yoda was to explain how he was able to duplicate Qui-Gon's ability to become a Force-ghost after death.

And that begs another question: how did Anakin do it? He didn't learn it from Yoda before his fall, did he?

Qui Jon apperently learned it on the fly, sort of speak. Nobody that I'm aware of trained Qui to do it, so that would imply that others could do it intuitively too.

I think he learned it from the Whills. I brought this topic up a while ago hereand got some good responses.

If that cut scene is still canon, it still doesn't answer who taught the Whill shaman in the first place. IE, someone had to learn it without being taught first. Besides, the entry doesn't actually say anything about Anakin learning it from the Whills. I also don't really like the assumption that you don't preserve your identity in the "netherworld". It seems to work fine for the Sith Lords, though likely using a different method. Also note that the effect doesn't last forever, as Qui-Gon and Yoda thought during their script conversation.

Aboard the second Death Star at the Battle of Endor, Anakin Skywalker lay dying. He asked his son to remove his life-sustaining helmet, so that he could look upon his long lost son with his own eyes. Having saved his son's life, and reclaimed his soul from the dark side, Anakin died and became one with the Force. Through compassion and selflessness, Anakin discovered the secret knowledge of the Shaman of the Whills, a technique that allowed him to retain his identity in the netherworld of the Force.

My understanding is that the whills are an embodiment of the will of the force. No one needed to teach the whill shaman. He'd just know, as the whills aren't really a species that ever existed in the galaxy.
