Here's a couple quotes:

DARKSABER
(Hardcover)
pg.132: Daala squinted out the viewport, and suddenly she saw a whirlwind of tiny lights appear, marking deck after deck on a breathtakingly huge ship. The immense wedge shaped shadow was a single vessel, larger than anything she had ever seen before.

"I can't believe it," Pellaeon said beside her. "Only the Executor was this big—and that one ship practically bankrupted the Empire."
DARK APPRENTICE
pg.303: "As we approach in-system, the Basilisk's small volunteer crew will begin a self-destruct countdown. The Gorgon will run interference until we reach our target, at which time we will turn aside. At full speed the Basilisk will plunge into the atmosphere of Coruscant. It will be unstoppable."

"When the Basilisk detonates..." Daala said. She paused as the planetary image flashed with a brilliant ring of fire that sent ripples igniting through the atmosphere. All the lights on the night side of the planet went dark. Cracks of fire appeared across the land masses.

"The explosion will be sufficient to level the buildings on half a continent. The shock wave traveling through the planetary core could topple cities on the other side of the world. The underground resevoirs will break open. Tidal waves will cause damage along the coasts. For the price of one Star Destroyer, we can lay waste to Coruscant."
And here's one of my favorites:

CHAMPIONS OF THE FORCE
pg.93: Lando squinted at the scanners. "I'm tracking eleven Victory-class Star Destroyers heading out of the system."

"Have they picked us up yet?"

"Don't think so. There's still a lot of radiation and interference from that explosion. Looks to me like they just packed up and ran."
The Millennium Falcon has stronger sensors than an entire fleet of Victory-class Star Destroyers!

In fairness i'm sure that Victory Class SD's are easier to detect than a smaller ship like the Falcon.

And if they're facing away (out-system) relative to the Falcon, they should be even more detectable (and its possible their own engines interfere with sensor scans at any real range. Assuming they bother to constantly scan for the Falcon, that is (and depending on what SEnsors/emissions the Falcon is using/giving off.)

As for Isard and Coruscant, do recall she had at least a few SSDs lying around (enough that she coudl dispatch one to ferry Derricote to Coruscant from his po-dunk little station, at least.) and Lusankya in hiding on top of that. I'm pretty sure Roek and the Aggrressor were still answerign tot eh Empire (even at Corellia). Had she wanted to, she could simply have raised the Lusankya, stationed the other SSD she used to get Derricote and then pounded the Rebels as they tried to attack.

Point being, she always intended them to take Coruscant, so its shitty defenses are probably her doing (first to lure them into wanting to take it early on, and then to give it to them easily.) Even if her Krytos idea was pretty stupid.

Edit: And in the main KJA is better in a "technical" sense writing than he is in "entertainment" writing. I've found his books more useful in debates for the useful tidbits contain more than I do enjoy reading them. In fact I loathe his books because his writing is abyssmal.

Being magically unable to leave the main galaxy, and having vast tracks of unexplored regions of space in that same galaxy strike me as minimalist (and no, I don't buy Admiral Ozzel's line supporting this belief either.. he said uncharted SETTLEMENTS, not uncharted space/systems, meaning people move around a lot and not everyone keeps tabs on what those people are doing).

A handful of ISDs threatening the galaxy also comes to mind... and the rays of a star threatening a battleship's shields. But I'm a little behind in my EU lore, so what do I know. ;)
fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1
Someone asked me yesterday if Dracula met Saruman and there was a fight, who would win. I just looked at this man. What an idiotic thing to say. I mean really, it was half-witted. - Christopher Lee

Perhaps that line, misinterpreted, is the source of the brain bug prevalent in the EU. But at least they seem to have retconned it, hm?
Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Extralife style.
