My wife and I have already agreed to buy a Wii. I seriously doubt we'll be picking up a PS3 or 360 in the near future.

Chalk up another one for the Wii, and it might very well be a camper purchase, too. As for the PS3, there's not a chance in hell I'd be shelling out for it unless it got to three hundred or lower, and even then the 360 has a crapload more titles that I'd actually want.

The only thing that I'm worried about, though, is the backwards compatability - I don't have a 'cube, but I've been buying titles and a controller for it for the last three-four months, and I'm going to be pissed as all hell if there's a problem with running them on the Wii.

To the best of my knowledge, the Wii is perfectly compatable with GameCube software, controllers, memory cards, and a number of accessories.

Christmas 2007 right? Because Sony gave the finger to europe afaik.
But it'll be the Wii or nothing since the price is very affordable and it offers something different than my Xbox 360

I'm getting a Wii, too. It looks like fun and it's within what I can afford to spend on a game console. I might get a 360 or PS3 eventually. But I don't see any games I want for that kind of money in the forseeable future. That and the PS3 launch is still far off here.

And to answer the backwards compatability question, the Wii shares system architecture with the Gamecube and has all the Cube slots for controllers and memory cards hidden under two flaps on he top. Nintendo says 100% backwards compatible for games. Wavebirds, microphone, and bongos, too. Only the GB Player addition isn't compatible since it fit under the bottom of the Gamecube and I don't know if Gamecube games can use the Wii's built in Wi-fi as a GC Network adaptor.

I'm a bit surprised how many people here say Wii. I wonder if Nintendo has gotten it right finally?

No, Sony's just gotten it horribly, horribly wrong.

I'm not.

Every piece of news, from the fact that Japanese retailers are expecting the PS3 to get a total shoeing, to the fact that Nintendo already have about two millions Wiis built, whereas Sony can't muster more than 500,000, and the fact that Nintendo are getting all three territories in time for Christmas, points to only one conclusion. Nintendo are going to own this Christmas.

Wii. The controllers did it for me. I want to swordfight and shoot with that thing.

The only thing that surprises me now is that they haven't announced a Star Wars game for the Wii.

I mean come on, motion sensing controller, with a speaker in it. It's gagging for it!

I figure something like that's going to be in the next wave of games they release. It can't be that far off, considering how you get Star Wars games for virtually every next gen console.

I remember reading about Lucasarts officials mentioning during E3 that the wiimote 'looks like a lightsaber' (with complimentary nods, winks and nudges). I think a Star Wars game is in the works, but it's too early for them to talk about it officially.

If there's one in the works, then it's certainly not for launch or the holiday season. Otherwise they would have announced it some time before now.

I already have Zelda preordered. Now I just need to get ahold of a system to play it on. Wii for me!

I'm getting a Wii, even though EB just screwed me out of my pre-order for it. Still, I'm going to try and get it on launch day even if I need to camp out for it somewhere. It's going to be the first system I buy at launch :D

I'm interested in the PS3, but not until it drops WAY down in price (The $200-250 range). There are games that look interesting on it, but at $600 Sony can bite me :D

The PS3 will cost around 400$ at launch day but only in Japan. But since the PS3 doesn´t come with a region code you can simply import it from Japan.

Hope you like paying the importing costs involved. Like shipping, duty fees (if applicable), etc.

I import stuff all the time: it doesn't cost that much. AU doesn't seem to charge dutys at all, and shipping isn't very expensive. I highly doubt Sony will make a region-free console, however.

You didn't bother reading the link at all did you?
IGN wrote:Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison confirmed what was heavily demanded for import gamers all over the world, and yet previously thought unthinkable for a major corporation: the PS3 will be region-free for gaming.

The link with no explanation and a stupid name? No, I didn't read it. Diddums.

That said, I'll still believe it when I see it. The Wii was said to be region-free until recently, remember?

You could've always, I dunno, hovered your mouse over it to see what page it took you to. But I guess if you want to be a lazy cunt instead, go for it.

Yeah, when I'm scanning a thread and I see a post that solely consists of a 'roffle tits' link I should check what it is, right? For sure. That way tards like General Zod wouldn't whine at me! Worth every penny.

But hey, I'm glad for the insightful discussion we're having about the region coding: your counterargument with regards to the precedent of sudden region-coding announcements absolutely floored me.

You're right. . .I mean, heaven forbid a link in a thread actually be related to the topic at hand, or the reaction of the person who quoted it just below the link be a giveaway as to what it's about. But I suppose I can't help it if someone gets butthurt the moment they learn that the issue they just bitched about was announced in a link to an article they couldn't be assed to so much as highlight over. That couldn't possibly be it, eh?
