Catchy.

Not that it's a bad song, but I was expecting something more ominous based on the Grim Reaper theme/ Game Over theme description, but then again I've never played Kid Icarus. Interesting piece all the same.

It would be awesome if we could upload music from the Photo Channel to Brawl. Fighting on Skyworld to "The Imperial March?" Yes please.

It sounds a little too bright and upbeat, especially compared to the pieces from the original game, for my tastes.

Heh, I was expecting something sillier than all that bombastic stuff, because that's what the Grim Reapers in Kid Icarus are: Silly. *bleeep bloopbleepbloop blooop bloop*
They are also fuckers, but not quite as much as the Eggplant Wizards. I wonder if they will both show up in SSBB.

Also, for the record, I actually prefer the original NES music to this orchestral version, but maybe it fits better when fighting.

Today's update Pit's final smash
Pit is the captain of Palutena’s Army, the guardians of the Goddess of Light! It’s said that when he raises his voice to heaven, this goddess will appear.

Goddess Palutena! I beseech you!

Now that’s what I call a deity. Look how big she is!

Well, I guess technically that’s not her actual size. She just chose to manifest herself as something that big.

Here come the flying Centurions...

Now, attack!

They divebomb at incredible speeds!

It’s very difficult to dodge a charge of Centurions, splitting the sky like a storm.

Then again, the Centurions scatter after they clash. They each make one attack and then fall in battle.

Their sacrifices are so...so moving...

Very nasty. They're putting a lot of thought into this game.

Hey, I'm all for Mother-series items. Go Ness!

Incidentally, I just noticed that Ike's cape is tattered.

New Character: Pokemon Trainer:
Pokémon Trainer
Characters
Pokémon Trainer

No way! The Pokémon Trainer has finally arrived. And it looks like he doesn’t do his fighting directly.

Instead, he uses the three Pokémon with him – Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard – to do the fighting for him.

Pokémon Change!

The Pokémon Trainer watches from the background.

screenshot

Is… Is he issuing commands?!

He needs to use his three Pokémon to fight. So the only ones who fight directly are the Pokémon.

I guess you could say using this character is like playing three for the price of one!

And the Pokémon Trainer uses a special move called Pokémon Change to switch between them.

Down Special Move: Pokémon change

screenshot

Good job, Ivysaur! Come back!

screenshot

The returning Pokémon tags the next Pokémon.

screenshot

Charizard! I choose you!

They swap out in a set order: Squirtle→Ivysaur→Charizard.

screenshot

They all share the same damage meter, so they don’t recover from damage during Pokémon Change. But they also have another stat, which you might call stamina.

If you keep fighting with the same Pokémon, or if you change them out too often, it’s not so good for the Pokémon.

If you want to be a good Pokémon Trainer, you’ll need to learn these kinds of ins and outs.

Well they are cetainly making some intresting chars.

Damn. A friend of mine wanted the trainer as a character, and he got it. Damn.

That just seems impossible to work.

Wow, that's a curveball. And a really neat idea. I wonder how they'll handle the trainer on levels like DK's Rumble Falls. And especially on any levels similar to Melee's Poke Floats or Rainbow Cruise.

They actually have a screenshot of the trainer on Rumble Falls in the update. Of course, the screenshots don't move, so I guess my post is kind of useless ^_^.

That being said, this update is so awesome. This looks like it'll really be an interesting character to play. A lot of people thought that Deoxys should have been a character who could cycle forms, guess Nintendo had something else in mind.

Stamina meter sounds like a good concept that could be just as bad. Helps prevent the Shiek situation, and forces you to adapt to all the Pokemon rather than just selecting one and ignoring the others(Zelda).

He has Charizard so you know he can kick ass.

This has given me some hope that interesting characters might be in the game. Now we just need Ridley, Advance Wars Character with Vehicles, SMITH, and the Vic Viper from Gradius (it's made by Konami!) and the square of pentagon character concepts will be complete.

I still say Ridley won't work scaled down to a character, but I'm kind of curious if Miis are going to worked in, as an assist(wave of your personal Miis rush the level) or a playable character(Your Mii battling it out with Mario Link etc.)

Why wouldn't Ridley work? If you mean he's too big, well, Bowser's bigger (hell, in Sunshine, I think he was bigger than Kraid) and Kirby's eight inches tall. Size doesn't matter.

If you mean he wouldn't work as a fighter, why not? They made movesets for Captain Falcon of all people, and Charizard shows that flying dragons work as characters.

Edit: And I've wanted playable Ivysaur in Smash Bros. for years. This update was a rather nice one for me. :)

Bowser however was scaled up in those games, Ridley is going to be a pencil thin character or be horribly out of proportion with his true form if scaled down to the Bowser/Kong sizes.

We see one interpretation of Ridley in the opening to Melee, it doesn't seem like that unreasonable of a proposition.

An assist trophy today, the Devil from a Japan and Europe only NES game called Devil World.

He'll make the screen scroll, basically, limiting the amount of playing field that you have to work with. About half of the field will count as "off-screen" while the Devil is in effect. Imagine edge guarding when the entire level is the edge.

EDIT: Actually, WAAAAY more than half. For proof, this is the Devil in action.

Image

That is all of the level that is left after the trophy.

I apologize if this wrecks an 56k, but this update needs to be seen in order to be understood. It is, to wit, stickers.
Aug. 15 Wed. 2007

Stickers

I’d like to introduce a new collection element to the game—stickers.

Yes, the ones you slap on your notebook or skateboard or whatever. Stickers.

Image

This...is a sticker.

Stickers are easier to get a hold of than trophies. Just play the game and you’ll start to earn them as rewards.

Image

Stickers get filed away in your album.

There are big ones and small ones, all with different kinds of artwork. There’s a ton of variety.

Image

Now stick one on! Sticky, sticky...

This is a fun extra mode where you can enjoy decorating things by putting stickers on them. You can even make single frame comics with them.

Image

And rumor is, you can even save screenshots?!
