I thought the end was an anti-climax because it simply didn't live up to the build-up to it in my eyes. The battle at Hoover Dam was built up to be his huge, pivotal thing and then it turned out to be a few dozen of the same morons I'd been killing for ages rushing in half a dozen or so at a time for me to knock off with my tri-laser rifle before a quick run and gun along the damn in a similar vein and then raiding the legion camp which was also pretty similar (though I think they managed a fairly decent number of guys at once there) but with a last boss that took an awful lot of shooting to put down. It just felt a bit flat. So much so that I was conserving ammo for the next bit I was sure was coming till it didn't (not that I needed to conserve ammo by that stage, but such habits die hard for me).

Just realsied this was possibly a bit of a spoiler for someone who hadn't finished so edit.

It changes absolutely nothing. There isn't even a mention of it during the final battle. All it really changes is that NPCs will occasionally mention that they wish they'd been there to see Caesar die.

Yes, but this was made by the same Developer as Alpha Protocol. Alpha Protocol, the one game I can remember playing pretty much ever where choices you make and who you do or don't kill has some impact on something. Even small choices can have pretty big effects in that game.

And then in New Vegas to be able to kill the leader of an entire faction of bad people, along with everyone else in the base, and for it to literally have no effect other than the Legion hating me... it's kinda stupid, really.

EDIT: Basically, the only reason I've surprised by it is because it was Obsidian. If it were a Bethesda RPG or a BioWare RPG I'd know that all the "choices" and "consequences" don't mean shit. I guess Alpha Protocol spoiled me.

I knew how the game ends so the spoiler doesn't bother me, but its surprising that they didn't make any allowance for Caesar getting killed in the ending - I mean seriously, there's a bunch of other times when characters mention stuff you've done in other points in the game - I was shocked when at Camp Golf I was talking to the Ranger guy and he mentions the problems NCR is having with Nelson - and then he thanked me for helping them take Nelson back, because I had. Its a small thing, but dammit its nice.

If games like this had as much event sensitivity as Alpha Protocol it might actually be worth playing Bioware games. Its just laziness; no point doing all that scripting when people are happy without it. Fallout is better because you can ignore everything until the stupid ending postcards of uselessness, because that's all people want.

I think it's surprising because otherwise FO:NV does have a lot of that kind of reactivity (probably one of the reasons it's buggy, some of it can be hard to keep consistent). Caesar is one very big and bizarre exception, especially since it's actually added to some degree, just way way smaller than it should be.

It's not 'reactivity' if its not sensitive enough to cover obvious things like this; hell, its a rare game where things you DO count for shit, as opposed to things you SAY. If you're not on a quest, and you're not in dialogue, 99% of games have no way of even knowing what you're doing.

That said, main sequences are generally shielded from this sort of thing (especially considering the awful balance in most RPGs) by making it instanced or essential NPCs invincible, but just like you could kill Vivec at level 1 in Morrowind without disrupting the entire game, they really should have had a global flag for this sort of thing.

But then - since the game is open-world - people would whinge that going there and killing everyone instantly invalidates a whole swathe of quests. Game designers can't win, so they take the easier path. After all, nobody complains that the vast majority of the population of these games are 'bandits'.

Yeah, I loved Vault 11. And I'm glad to know I'm not the only one irked by that slight plothole. But over-all it was just really... good. And kinda sad. The message that plays when you sit down in that chair is really great too. Just the delivery of it is fantastic.

House says some line about the short term consequences being irrelevant since the Legion will try to take Hoover Dam in Caesar's memory, and then promptly collapse. Or something like that.

Of course, this is also after he tells you not to kill him, because Caesar himself is a vital component of House's plans.

Well thank you steam, thanks to the auto update function my previously perfectly working (well, aside from the scroll wheel) copy of New Vegas is now a buggy infuriating piece of shit and I cant get through a single fight without the iron sight function, pip-boy and just plain shooting stops working for moments at a time.

If you shoot and kill some of the robots in the final room, they are flagged for the New Vegas faction, thus fucking up your chances for that faction.

On an unrelated note - just made it to freeside (I like to explore before doing most quests. I will be helping the followers. They're good people. I should be able to convince the crimson caravaners to do what they need to do with my speech iwin button. Boone seems to be coming into his own and I'm getting better at managing his combatz. Had an unfortunate incident last night where some urchins were running about and one of them got a little close to me. I figured they stole something so I chased them about until I could crouch/steal my stuff back. turns out they didn't steal anything, but I got a....thing....a C-finder(?) off one of the kids....apparently a grown up who saw me do it didn't take kindly to my actions and boone ventilated him before he could bring his switchblade (lol) out of his pocket to (attempt) to ice me. I swear that dude's got eyes in the back of his head.

Think I'll hit the casino in freeside and see what's what in there tonight. if I don't decide to watch Mean Guns again (DAMN YOU NETFLIX!)
