Edit: Oh yeah, I put in that note about offense because some people will take that kind of thing as an insult to their intelligence if you do it. Just making sure.

Heh. Improved critical would give me a threat range of 15-20.

Heh. That rule's broken. You had people with +X keen vorpal falchions and Improved Crit (falchion) running around cutting people's heads off on rolls of 12-20.

I like a couple aspects of 3.5... mostly the ranger class differences.

Come on, 3.0 harm followed up by magic missile will finish off anything. Great red wyrm? Touch AC sucks. Take him down to 1d4 HP and then hit him with 1d4+1 damage. It dies, conceivably within a round. Same for anything except the Tarrasque.

My group never thought of that sort of thing, instead, they crawled inside the dragons mouth and started hacking at its insides.

3.0 harm offered no save. Magic missile doesn't either. If the cleric could hit AC 7 (at most), the dragon died.

Any dragon that lets a mage get close enough to deliver a touch attack deserves everything they get.

Cleric. About twice as tough and armored to boot. The mage just has to slap a ranged spell on it.

And there are n ways to get in without the dragon ever knowing they're there. Etherealness comes to mind. Waltz on in, dismiss the spell, wham bam, its gone.

Also, any dragon worth his snuff will have magic wards up. Except for feral dragons who are pushovers anyway.

You speak to the master of tactics. Seriously, I even run a sort of school on D&D combat tactics at another board.

It scared me what I could do with 3.0 haste and harm. I much prefer having harm offer a save and damage cap. and 3.5 haste doesn't allow spellcasters to use it to cast two spells a round.

That said, 3.0 is not bad. I know a lot of people who just downloaded the 3.5 SRD and used what they liked to house-rule 3.0. That works too. But have you even tried 3.5, or did you just decide it had to suck because it was just a corporate moneymaking scheme or something? [/i]
