Hope the screenshots go as JPEGs on an SD card.

They were for the photo channel, but then again they might just use Brawl's own WFC to send pictures rather than going through the photo channel, leaving that as the least used channel on the Wii.

Incidentally, Praxis, did you get my PM a few days ago?

Wouldn't it be awsome if you got to fight using your mii? I just though of that, it worked for Mario Party 8.

Tether Recovery

You know that Zero Suit Samus has a Plasma Whip, right? But you may not know that she can use it for recovery.

Samus is falling! This looks bad!

She uses her up special move! She just manages to latch on!

Whew, that was a close one.

She can retract it to bring her to the ledge.

Moves like that can be pretty thrilling. And it’s not exclusive to Zero Suit Samus... Other characters can do it, too!
It worked for Link.

It worked for Varia Suit Samus too. Difference is they had a crappy range, and you had to hook it horizontal to the edge. Zero Suit Samus(and all the grapplers may get this) seems to have a greatly extended range, as well as the ability to grapple from below, which could make them hard to take out from lack of recovery.

Actually, Link and Samus hold fairly good range if you combined it with a mid-air dodge. Anyway, the text says that the whip is her up+B, which means that other grapplers may not necessarily be able to latch on from below.

Today's update, surprising absolutely no one, Princess Peach.

Samus is likely much lighter in her Zero Suit than in her Varia Suit, so her Zero Suit recovery range advantage should even out.

Update: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/index.html
The design for Link is taken from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, so his special moves have also been designed a bit differently.

<Side Special Move: Gale Boomerang>

screenshot

Gale Boomerang!

The Gale Boomerang deals damage when thrown at an enemy, but when it comes back, it also lightly pulls the foe’s body.

<Standard Special Move: Hero’s Bow>

screenshot

The Hero’s Bow! It’s fast.

<Down Special Move: Bomb>

screenshot

Are these bombs made by Barnes?

<Up Special Move: Spin Attack>

screenshot

You can charge up the Spin Attack!

<Grab: Clawshot>

screenshot

All this and the Clawshot, too!

You can use the Clawshot to perform life-saving tether recoveries by aiming at available ledges.

It was difficult to aim in the previous game, but this time it automatically flies to the closest ledge, so it should be pretty simple to use.

screenshot

Of course, it doesn't mean a thing if it can't reach its target...
I should have expected his weapons would change, of course, but I'm still surprised. It seems that the clawshot will drift towards ledges, but we're not getting crazy plasma whip grabs here. But the boomerang might be more useful this time around.

More storyline information:
The Subspace Army

Movie link

"The Subspace Emissary" storyline introduces a force of formless enemies called the Subspace Army. They are ruled by their commander, the Ancient Minister.

screenshot

The Ancient Minister.

screenshot

The enemy’s primary offensive strength is in creatures called the Primid. They come in many variations.

Their objective is to cut apart the world and carry it into Subspace. They use what are called Subspace bombs to do so.

screenshot

The Robotic Operating Buddies (R.O.B.s) on either side of the Subspace bomb are needed to detonate the device.

When a Subspace bomb explodes, a section of the world gets excised and swallowed by Subspace.

screenshot

Kaboom! The stadium is engulfed!

This is a new, never-before-seen form of aggression...but now is no time to stop and stare. Everyone, everywhere, is beginning to move against it.
Yes, R.O.B., that little robot that helped sneak a video game console into thousands of homes is back. And he's EVIL.

And it looks like Petey Piranha is working with the bad guys.

Two, TWO kidnapped princesses for the price of one! Link is gonna be pissed.

New Challenger: Diddy Kong!
Donkey Kong’s pal has finally joined the battle! Unfortunately, screenshots fail to truly capture the way he moves.

He scrambles around the battle, using whimsical fighting moves while wielding both his Rocketbarrel Boost and Peanut Pop Gun!

He's back again and about time too,
And this time he's in the mood,
He can fly real high with his jetpack on,
With his pistols out he's one tough Kong,
He'll make you smile when he plays his tune,
But Kremlings beware 'cause he's after you!

Huh!!
DK, Donkey Kong!!
Huh!!

Oddly enough he was just a character I had recently been thinking about if they were going to add, and thought it kind of odd he did not make it into Melee.

Haha! So funny, I downloaded Donkey Kong Country 2 off the VC a couple days ago and I was just thinking about Diddy in Smash Bros the other day.

OOO...Two updates for today.

1. New music
Animal Crossing: Go K.K. Rider!

It hardly needs to be said that this music plays in Smashville.

Many Animal Crossing songs are pretty serene, so there are a lot of songs that aren’t very suited to a fighting game. What to do, what to do...?

Then there’s this arrangement. As I sit and enjoy this song, it reminds me of one phrase in particular...

"Heroes always arrive late."

2. Yoshi: Final Smash
<Super Dragon>

It’s tough to know what to call Yoshi—some call him a dragon, others a dinosaur. Some people don’t know WHAT he is.

But whatever you call him, Yoshi’s true power will be seen here!

screenshot

He’s gotten the oft-mentioned Smash Ball!

screenshot

W-wings!

screenshot

He starts spewing out a jet of fire...

screenshot

But you can also press the button to spit out fireballs!

It feels like, um...beauty and elegance...mixed with clumsiness. Certainly, no one’s ever seen Yoshi like this!

Being able to fly around is nice, as is giving undivided attention to his attacks. Yoshi can live as he likes, for a brief period of time.

screenshot

Oh, to think it’s already over...

Yes! Winged Yoshi makes a comeback! Truely, a throwback to the glory days of 2D gaming. The only thing missing from his Final Smash is the ground stomp, although I suppose Hip Drop subs for it. Too bad the wings seem to have been simply pasted on.

More on the story mode: A Boss Fight!
Petey Piranha

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary, it’s rumored that there will be boss appearances.

This time, I’d like to introduce the first boss you encounter: Petey Piranha!

screenshot

He... He’s huge!

screenshot

Too intense!

Locked in the iron cages he holds are the princesses, Peach and Zelda. He looks angry. Wh-what is he doing?

screenshot

He’s attacking with the iron cages!

You can save either Zelda or Peach, depending on which cage you damage more and subsequently break.

screenshot

What will happen to the one you don’t save?!
This brings up an interesting situation here. As this is a boss fight in the intro, do you have to fight as Kirby, or does this mean the intro actually changes depending on who you play as?

I get the impression that you have to fight as Kirby...the story mode might not let you select your favorite character! Otherwise, what happens if you choose Peach and Petey captures you?

I'd bet, though, that then you switch to playing whichever princess you rescue.

Off the top of my head, one of two things happens:

#1: the fight is skipped, as Peach breaks herself out.

#2: Petey nabs Mario instead. :D

Alternately, Peach isn't automatically availible to start with for that mode.

I'm thinking you'll start off as Kirby, then the next level you'll either be Peach or Zelda. I'm also thinking each boss battle will be a choice and which ever one you pick will be who you use in the next level, and send you on a different path. That would increase the single player replay value quite a bit.

What's the point of even saving one when they'll just get kidnapped again.

Because that's what the devs want you to do? Also, it's a good excuse to kick some ass.

New item today: Superspicy Curry.

It's consumed like food, but when eaten you start spitting fire. However, you can still attack normally, and your attacks become endowed with a fire element.
