Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread IX
It didn't really need to be brought up. It's not like anyone can stop you from joining CATO, and it's not like anyone can stop me from playing Emmeria the way I want to. Stas here is forever pissed off at me because of the following.
Y'see, I had an idea where I was going to write about an occupation, and how the occupying soldiers and the natives would deal with it, and it would have been the start of an interesting plot. I did, indeed, create a strawman NPC for the purpose of knocking it down, but that was simply a means to an end so I could write about what I wanted to.
The problem, of course, is that Stas didn't comprehend the reasons behind it and decided that he was going to involve himself and his colossal nation on the side of the NPC (I have always assumed the reason for his involvement was to punish me for daring to actually do something instead being a humble little peasant-power - he's never actually given me a good reason for it), which caused me to panic and then find a way to have high-level backing of my own by drawing in another Imperium on my side. In doing so I ended up pissing off the local players who'd been moving to help me, but once Stas got his giant country involved it didn't seem like they were going to be able to do anything fast enough or with enough strength to make a difference.
To the FTO guys: I'm genuinely sorry for dicking you around. Stas butted in, I panicked, it didn't go well.
Stas has spent the rest of the game generally being an asshole to me based on his presumptions about the PRSF issue. Never bothered asking for my side of it. If he ever bothered to do so, I would gladly explain what happened and why, and then maybe he'd understand that the PRSF was just, to me, the means to write a story, which is what NPCs are in the games I came here from. I didn't want to fight the PRSF for power - I wanted to write about how one small power would deal with occupying another, a balanced occupation scenario instead of that of the massive US occupying Iraq.
I'm utterly sick of the grudges and the bullshit that have stemmed from this. I want to clear it up, now, because I want to move on and play my new country without constantly being judged because of the mistakes I made with the old one.
If you're game, I'm game, but for the love of god guys, move on already.

Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread IX
That's not really clear though. From the game posts I was seeing, it seemed like people were pretty eager to get Cialan's president to Stasograd so he could "join CATO" (even though he started off seeking observership). It wasn't until PeZook stepped up and said he should be signing a statement of intent that things slowed down (well that and distracting everyone with the latest plotlineStas Bush wrote:CATO requires due process to join. We're actually somewhat curtailing our "openness" because there is some fear of technological leaks. There are some rules, you know, CATO isn't a free for all.

That was me, actually.SiegeTank wrote:That's a particularly rich argument coming from someone who's usually among the first to claim that real life sometimes interferes with the ability to respond to developments in the game.

At any rate, I think we could use a few more neutral players at this point anyway. We have what, three PCs who aren't tied in some way to either alliance? And it's gotten to the point where it seems we can't have a dispute between anybody without dragging one or both of the alliances into it. Having another neutral nation would help, because Steve can only send so many peacekeepers all over the world.
Plus, if Crossroads goes with Steve's idea of his nation being in the middle of the Atlantic (hence the name) it would make more sense for them not to be in either alliance than to actually join one. It's rather difficult to be a "Crossroads" when you pick sides with one of two groups that seem deadset on having large-scale arguments every other month...and making sure to have plenty of negative propoganda in the interim. So we don't forget we're supposed to be hating each other or something.

Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread IX
Cialan wanted some weapons which require a certain CATO status, namely observership. But they also indicated that only their Parliament has the legal power to move a nation into any alliance's status (regardless of whether it's full membership or observership), so that's why it only amounted to "letter of intent". Else, he'd been a CATO observing nation. No one revoked observership rules.
Also, Crossroadia could team up with Steve and/or the IRT, it makes sense.

Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread IX
Siege, expect the last of your Falcon order to be ready by the 12th of August, real-time.
You also wanted four Cicadas, as I recall, and I believe Baerne wanted "a few squadrons" of the little buggers, and I interpreted that as 48 planes. That lot should be ready by the 6th of August RT, and your test flight should be ready a couple days after that.
Did Indhopal agree to purchase any? I don't recall...
Also, since the LCS II is a completely different shape than I originally thought (my Stingray KGs are based on them), and since the only reason it had a helipad was for refueling V-22 analogues that I now know can be refuelled by the ship without actually needing to land on it, would it be feasible to trade the helipad for a hideous number of VLS cells or some kind of giant fuck-off radar?

The LCS draught and displacement would hardly allow to trade the helipad for "hideous" amount of missiles, I'm afraid... but you can put some I guess.

Goddamn you mangs have been busy.
My apologies to those who had business with me, I'm sure we can sort it all out in unreal time - once I catch up to the game and the OOC thread.
I'm catching up now, but I see some fun stuff has begun. Prime Noir!
So, did I miss anything important?

To be fair I was using the words "join CATO" the same as "get CATO membership", thus why it may be unclear. That's because:CmdrWilkens wrote:The point was, and it does deserve some reiteration, that Shroom nearly shit a brick that Czech might join the MESS but he has made nary a peep that you are coming on board with a CATO-lean even before your country is fully formed. Matt and I are simply pointing out the rank hypocrisy in the stiuation.Crossroads Inc. wrote:Hey I havn't Joined CATO, yet, I am still reading the last Game thread to get caught up on History, I have to say you gys have one HELL of a cold war of sorts going on.
1.) I wasn't fully aware that Crossroads was going to join CATO, although I saw a bit of it in these few days but didn't know how serious it was aside from just another new player going "Hey, who's who around here?"
And the exact geographical position of Crossroads' nation hasn't been exactly been decided yet, as far as I know.
2.) I've been busy. Particularly this week, wherein I've had to alternate between NUERSING shifts that go from 3PM-11PM to shifts that went from 5AM-1PM. So I've been barely able to keep up with SDNWorld storylines that involve my own Prime Minister being blown to pieces.
3.) I've been kicking ass in another forum's more lenient and lawless version of SDNWorld, but because of #2 my activity in that game has also been markedly decreased.
4.) MOST IMPORTANTLY: Czech has had a history of being a provocative... player. Crossroads has NOT.
The reason why I object to Czech being anywhere near the Old Continent - and the idea of him turning into MESS while at it - is rooted in the fact that he has started off last time inciting conflict that nearly went nuclear, and is once again inciting conflict again. Hell, Czech's nation proposals always involve conflict. Look at him go Ace Combat on poor little Vit-Usti-Osea.
Crossroads, on the other hand, becoming CATO near MESS is not nearly as objectionable.
Crossroads being a CATO player near the MESS nations in Messica = Coyote/Canissia being a MESS player sharing land borders with the CATO nations in the Old Continent.
I don't object to sharing borders with Coyote since he's a cool cat, and concurrently Crossroads is considerably calmly composed - contrasting Czech's conviction for conflict-crazed countries crassly churling chum counterclockwise, consequently making a whole lot of us Old Continentals want him to stay right over there away from us.

Shady was adamant in not giving Cialan nukes and in observing it. PeZook has sent spies into Cialan. Me myself? Well, aside from economic deals with constructing continental connections and murdering marine mammals, Prime Minister Shroom just showed Cialan Man (Chief of State whatshisname) a grand old time.
Crossroads can be a neutral nation. Indhopal and Cascadia are both very interesting and cool nations regardless of non-alliance statuses.

We discussed the possibility of Klavostan purchasing some aircraft I believe. They kind of have a strange command structure right now with Tonkin controlling the country's economic policy and Indhopoli backed warlords running the security apparatus.Ryan Thunder wrote:Siege, expect the last of your Falcon order to be ready by the 12th of August, real-time.

Anyways, to answer your question, I figure that the various mercenary captains that loan out aircraft and the like for jobs are looking to upgrade their arsenals and will be investing in 24 of your aircraft.
Meanwhile the national army of Klavostan will be getting Tonkinese kit I believe. I'll actually try and get a revised orbat for Klavostan up later today for public comment.

Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread IX
Well, you gave off the opposite impression. As for the run up, that doesn't count. The stuff in Cialan is based on rumors (I never saw any official government response) and your visiting all over the OC doesn't mean the rest of us know you're joining CATO. If I were to have my government make a statement right now, all I could say is that, "There has been no official word from any of the interested parties..." or something like that. Because from what I've seen thus far, there hasn't.Bluewolf wrote:To be fair I was using the words "join CATO" the same as "get CATO membership", thus why it may be unclear. From what I read, I certainly got the impression he was heading to Stasograd to sign his letter or whatever to "join CATO" up until PeZook came by and said "Uh guys, letter of intent is better." Is this concern based off OOC information? Yes. Hence why I brought it up...in the OOC thread. Which is rather the point of this thing, isn't it? If I had had my State Department pitch a fit in the game thread, it'd be more of a point.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:What? We hardly even made a game post indicating we wanted them to join "right now". To expand on Lonestar's point a bit, Stas did his LIDAR thingy after talking about it as a counter to our B-4 when he saw it in the Wiki. Except the B-4 hasn't entered service yet! So how can he be countering it? I'm willing to have that slide as a general "anti-stealth" thing since it's getting around a lot more these days, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't thinking about the B-4 when he made that post.
But since we're on the topic of OOC stuff anyway, I'd love to know how Shady got his intelligence on Flyspeck Isle and coordinated with the NFT so damn fast. Because that was a massive retcon from Hell. Unless in-game it's just a line of bull he fed Paul, which is possible. But if he was serious...how the fuck? It's something I've been quite curious about for some time.

Since you are hardly even privvy to PMs and messages circulated around, you can hardly even so much as base on anything. We had originally agreed from the start to go slow and we stated that as much to Bluewolf. Either PeZook didn't read, or something (i would not be surprised), we had no intention of handing anything to Bluewolf beyond an Observership and he explicitly agreed to that in the PMs.RogueIce wrote:From what I read, I certainly got the impression he was heading to Stasograd to sign his letter or whatever to "join CATO" up until PeZook came by and said "Uh guys, letter of intent is better." Is this concern based off OOC information? Yes. Hence why I brought it up...in the OOC thread. Which is rather the point of this thing, isn't it? If I had had my State Department pitch a fit in the game thread, it'd be more of a point.
But if we wanted to be oh so fucking spiteful (and some of us are in the mood for that and in game, many are still smarting over the failed conference and will be that way for a while.), we could have gone fast anyway.
There was no indication in the wiki whether it was in service, and not in service, and given Beowulf's intentional habit of being cryptic with his posts, it could be well be either. To expand on Lonestar's point a bit, Stas did his LIDAR thingy after talking about it as a counter to our B-4 when he saw it in the Wiki. Why don't you ask them? Yes, I'm not privy. So, when I see it happening the way I did...I raised a point in OOC. Because that's the point of OOC.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Since you are hardly even privvy to PMs and messages circulated around, you can hardly even so much as base on anything. Is it in his TXAF OOB? It's in mine but that's highlighted gray as a "forming squadron" and not in service. So it's probably near-ish to being fielded but hasn't been yet. Cross-checking, dude. Be an armchair intel analyst! There was no indication in the wiki whether it was in service, and not in service, and given Beowulf's intentional habit of being cryptic with his posts, it could be well be either.

And Beo can be cryptic, but he does generally post the type of aircraft flying. So if he had B-4s in service, there would've been a post I imagine.
That's...kind of what I'm doing? Except here where everyone can see rather than over PMs where nobody else will have answers? Why don't you ask them? Not to mention, coordination can be as fucking fast as the politicians wish to fucking move.

Mang WTF? It was bullshit intelligence from unreliable sources, that was used as an excuse. I told Siege to do what he did OOC, and since everybody seemed to have gotten upset about it - I wanted an IC reason to step in on Siege's behalf, should things get too hot for him. I should have just blown up that damned island myself, perhaps then there would have been less bitching about it.

It's been rolling around in my head for a bit. But see below anyway.DarthShady wrote:Mang WTF? Why didn't you just ask me this sooner, instead of waiting for so long?
See, I was thinking, "You know, having it be real intel doesn't work out so well. But instead of just picking a fight, how could it be explained?" That's about the way I was thinking of doing it, actually, although I had a different method in mind.DarthShady wrote:It was bullshit intelligence from unreliable sources, that was used as an excuse. It would be the genesis of Indhopal asking the NFT if they knew anything about it. At that point, the NFT would figure, "Well shit, the cat's out of the bag," and need to come up with something; if Indhopal knew, it's quite likely others would as well. So they thought about it, and hit upon an idea: the UCSR can be pretty damn hardline, and doesn't like Japanistan. So ask them. And therein became the beginnings of the intelligence thing. It would work to handle any questions posed by allies (sort of; yeah we knew about it and we had 'em do it and oh by the way, pirates!) although not telling everyone else may or may not have been a problem (I suppose it's up to PeZook whether he would've felt slighted by it or not). And if anyone outside comes forward, it has the backing of the UCSR and they'd go, "So what're you gonna do about it?" or something along those lines. The last fits in with Shady's 'alliance of power' speech to King Paul, at least.
Rough-ish idea, but you see the general purpose. And why not clear it up? Better that than thinking the UCSR has some ninja spies at Kempetai HQ or something.

EDIT: And even if you had there'd still be bitching. Blowing up Japanistani outposts on flimsy intelligence at best gets a good deal of concern from the Shinra Republic, no matter who pulled the trigger. For the long-ago mentioned 'yes I worry they'll do something crazy' reasons.

Hey Crossroads, did you make that terrain map using SimCity 3000 or something?

Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread IX
Yes and no, I did have a Crossroads in SimCity 3K that I used as the bassis for that one which was done in SC4K. I took screen caps of the 3K one, "flattened" it in Adobe illustrator, and over a long, long period of time, did a detail and fully to Scale topographical greyscale map of the island. When SC4K came out, I used the greyscale to make at to scale "Region" of the map. Of course thats just the start...Ryan Thunder wrote:Hey Crossroads, did you make that terrain map using SimCity 3000 or something?
In the "region" loading screen ,you can only get a screen cap of a sort of skewed tilted view of the region as a whole... The only way to get a top down topographical screen shot is to go into a city, and select a "view city" option whihc shows a top down, rather small map of yoru cut up city... One by one I took screen caps of those small maps and gradually pasted them together to form an accurate top down geographical map of Crossroad Island. As you can see it isn't quite done yet, but enough is there to use for the SDN game.
Praying is another way of doing nothing helpful
