*sigh* Just because someone dosn't understnad or just plain disagrees with your point of view, dosn't make them stupid it makes them diffrent.

I write SW fiction, I read starwars books, I GM a starwars roleplay game, I used to be a treck fan when I was 10, if that helps, but please don't call me a trekie, I only argue the ST side because face it, Theres nothing more to be said about SW. and of cource its what the tread is about.

No, it doesn't. Making claims such as that you could destroy a shield generator without taking down the shidle protecting it first and making repeated false claims makes you stupi.

Just going for a little self defence here.
And we've allready established that you can go UNDER SW shield's, so destroying the genertoe when you under should be simple.
Or the bridge ect.
See, COPL.

If your "point of view" has been proven to be logically unsupportable and shot down in every conceivable way yet you still cling to it, then you do deserve each and every insult you've received.

Doesn't matter. If you try and argue stupid Trekkie tactics without any supporting evidence and which were refuted long ago, then you are acting like a Trekkie moron and therefore should be treated like one. See the Stilgar hate-mail exchange. This is a debate, not a war. You can't argue "friendly fire" here. Either an idea is right or it is wrong. Don't whine just because yours was the latter.

The AT-ATs were able to walk under the Hoth shield, but some official information tells us that the shields prevented repulsor-lift vehicles from doing the same. Similarly, the Trads Fed droids were able to walk through the Gungan shield in TPM, but the hover tanks didn't even try to pass through it.
Or the bridge ect.
On a ship, where the shields completely surround the ship, you need to fly through the shield, not under it.

What part of that don't you get? A single X-wing can't slip under an ISDs shields and pop the bridge, it's IMPOSSIBLE.

Sadly he's also forgetting at what Altitude COPL said the Falcon was at.

This is not even close to being considering a viable tactic by anyone without character shielding.

So if they can be sliped thought when they are under bombardment, it still works, Mon cal, crusier attacks, bombs ISD while bonbarment goes on, A-wings slip under and concussion the bridge...
As in COPL. "You under the schild you can fire any time now"
So all you havbe to do, is dive under the schild for a few seconds, and you can hit the bridge, guns, sensors....
Still seem to work.
Now instead of calling me a moron ect, show me which bit is wrong?

Let's see...in the example of the COPL. You're still ignoring the DISTANCE of which the MF is under the shield.

And in ROTJ you have nothing but your assumptions.

But hey you asked.

The gross conceptual error where you forgot tha they ducked under the shields before they were up and that they only reason that happened was because they shields were not set to hull hugging for some reason (probably because they were still effecting repairs from the last battle).
If shields are hull hugging (the usual setting), the only other way shields can be worked around are if another cap ship have pounded shields to the point where they had to drain away a side to reinforce the side being pounded. Even theyn they can only hit that area. And that is what starfighters were designed to do.

So, is there a single thing in Star Trek that better than Star Wars? How about medical tech? Consumer goods? Uniform look? Anything?
That's a good question.

How big are Galaxy Gun missiles? I was going to say that Species 8472 might've perfected miniaturized planet-killing "firepower" (as in, that which includes a chain-reaction) in Wars and Star Trek, but the GG missiles might be a lot smaller.

I already know the GG stuff is faster, so that's another item one could check in Wars' little box :)
A GG Missile looks about the size of a corvette. Somewhere between 100 - 200 meters I think. Someone could try to scale them in the panel where we see them being loaded in and go with the scale drawing of the entire complex in EGWT.

Not that it matters though, the Sun crusher is samller and in theory it could be used against a planet, it's just more effective against a star.
Well, since we're stepping outside the fairly narrow and weak field of Starfleet technology (since 8472 was invoked) the Sun Crusher is actually one-upped by the Tox Uthat. The Tox Uthat, as you may remember, was a device that fit in the palm of Picard's hand and could (supposedly) stop all reactions within a star.

The device from the TNG episode "Captain's Holiday"?

IIRC Picard destroyed it, didn't he?

"Slipping under the shield" only works if you can meet all of the necessary conditions.

1) Apply enough firepower to the target to create shield gaps. This took the combined firepower of several Rebel Alliance capital ships in ROTJ. The Federation simply doesn't have the power to accomplish this.

2) Numerous supporting fighters are engaged in attack runs attempting to find these openings. Note that fighter pilots won't voluntarily try to fly their ships through these gaps, since they will be killed crashing into the shield if they don't find one. Instead, they will fire at surface targets, hoping to get shots through during momentary shield flickers. This is how SW fighters can be effective in fleet engagements.

3) Even if you can convince fighter pilots to try to take their ships under the shield; the fighters need to be capable of this maneuver. Federation fighters are much larger than SW fighters, and they have an ergonomically cruddy control scheme, so it's highly doubtful they have the ability to skim a ship's hull beneath its shield.

Since Federation has about a 0% chance of exploiting this small vulnerability in Imperial shields, do you think you could stop obsessing over it?

Do we know for sure that the hand-held device was the actual device and not schematics or something? Do we know for sure that Vash and company weren't BSing (standard procedure for Vash IIRC)? Do we know how long that device takes to do its work? Without an actual demonstration, the information on the Tox Uthat is pretty sketchy.
