but you have far fewer than other do- even with your 25% fleet reduction, you only have 400 escorts. My advice? crank your ships down a bit (200 odd megaton/minute output on your smallest escorts, .5-.7 gig shielding) and field a greater number.

We still haven't determined what the 'slow' FTL speed is or how big an empire should be in radius. Can I have a ballpark figure at least?

Max FTL speed is 10,000C, a web of jump points between Empires will allow for much faster transit however. As for Empire size, your core worlds can be pretty densely packed but your outposts should be spread out over an arc more like 100 light years out, otherwise they wont wrk very well for there role of early warning and resupply.

Some questions about FTL sensors:

Do they exist? If so:

What is the propagation speed?

Can ships in hyper detect other ships in hyper?

Can ships in hyper detect ships in realspace?

Can ships in realspace detect ships in hyper?

Can ships in realspace detect other ships in realspace using FTL sensors?

Similar questions pertain to FTL communications.

GOAL FOR START DATE

While I and a few others still need to posts OOB, or flesh out the ones we already have I'm proposing that we all work to get them up by this coming Wednesday. At that point we begin treaty mongering and agree on a suitable web of jump points. That should hopefully be done in a few days or less so that game play can begin on the weekend when the most people should be around.

Here's the idea, folks-

Co-Prosperity Sphere:

An interstellar trade alliance, which agrees to basic principles of free trade, and adapts a common currency for intergovernment trade.

Works for me. Would it just start out with the core human powers? That would seem most logical to me.

My ideas exactly.

Everyone who wants to sign on, do so, and then I will write a short history.

Basic idea so far:

CPS consists of Human powers. The only job of the CPS is to ensure the flow of free trade between it's members, and supply the basic internationl currency- the Credit.

The CPS has no military arm, and no leader. Powers may use the CPS as a forum for discussion, but it has no powers besides the simple assurance that all it's members will enjoy free trade and a single interstellar trade-currency.

The only power of the CPS is to admit or remove members, either of which is acheived by a majority vote.

-this would be a good idea, because it will give us one currency to work with when doing interstellar trade agreements.-

That is a mind bogglingly broad purpose and makes this a military, political and economic alliance.

The only power of the CPS is to admit or remove members, either of which is acheived by a majority vote.
Then how do you intend to ensure the free flow of trade? In fact this idea seems to commit all members to military action if an outside power tries blockade. The Federation will not look well upon its members.

It is rather obvious that the treaty-maker was speaking of the elimination of tariffs between the powersand the issue of a common currency, and that the literal interpretation of this preliminary concept was incorrect.

Ensuring the flow of trade is generally in referance to shipping lanes. The finnal treaty will need use far better wording to avoid sever complications amoung powers within and without of it.

At the moment. If you wish, you may lodge a formal protest, though the words of non-human infidel dogs are generally ignored.
