Punishment for failure. Basically, they get tortured by the other demons for failure. Hence, they can be summoned back under certain circumstances, the banishments are generally the rule, but they're not a hard and fast rule. Many of the more arcane banishments (see Demonhunters) would be, I assume, derived via scrying.
And I'll try and make that the end of the humour...

I must say, we make quite the comic duo.

Yes! I guessed correctly! There was much rejoicing!

Of course, I'm not going to let it be that anti-climatic. You're still going to be expected to engage in manly and heroic physical combat.

I doubt fighting a Daemon Prince can be considered manly and heroic. Brief and violent, maybe.

Bah. Half a dozen inqusitors, a saint and Commisar-General-Grievous should be able to manage it.

I've got a mental image of the fight against the dragon in 8-bit Theatre, with our gang as the light warriors.

I've already manfully fought a daemon prince. I will generously yield this opportunity to Pater.

Thanks. I've only just blown his optic nerve and severely scrambled his insides, what could go wrong?
Also,

It was *my* idea, sunshine.

For some odd reason, no ships will be in orbital bombardment position for many minutes. Almost as if some malevolent entity is pulling the strings.

I don't think your title is accurate. Harbinger of Doom? You *are* the Doom.

You know, the next time I participate in one of these thingies I think I'll take a guardsman or somesuch. My ignorance of taktics and strateegy (Whatever they are) is making Pater look like an ass.

You're doing find Pcm. We're just in way over our head.

Don't worry. Her saintlyness is not a match for the beast, even if I am going all Thorian here. Still your job to win (or loose) the climatic battle of doom.
P.S. I promise that's the last Gandalf quote.

I'm not woried that her saintliness is too much, I'm worried that it is not enough.

Pcm, if Gork is gene engineered bear, he's an abhuman beastman not a xeno.

More like the result of a bear after being left alone for 10k years, subsequently augmented to be ever-so-slightly smarter. But I take your point, and shall do some fierce retconning.

Bears aren't going to turn into sapients in 10,000 years without humans Pcm.

by Pcm979
Very loosely sapient, they don't even have a language, just a very loose caste system based on bigger=better. Monkey level, really. They're augmented Ogryn-style, so Gork and Mork are unusually smart by their species' standards.

Pcm, they have to have been genetically uplifted just to have limbs capable of using tools.

Okay, okay. Point taken.

See? Seeee? This is what I'm talking about, right here. It's a conspiracy.
And for the record, there's no psychic flame involved. This is a mental assault designed to make the daemon vulnerable *to* the close-combat.
