At this point, I'm pretty much inclined to handwave the whole engagement away in its entirety.
Besides, with the sudden revelation that there's another power just on Haruhi's doorstep, one would think the new guys would take greater precedence on her list of priorities.

You can trade with the Melconian Star Empire. It'll give the militarists something to placate the people with while they stir shit up with wars that may not be a good idea.

I am sad that I have a lot of points investing in trade, and it looks like I might not get anyone either.

We have to invest points in trade ships now? I thought the rules said not to do that unless your freighters were especially badass.

Tradeships can be used to give you and your trading partner extra production each turn if you pay for them.

Well, I'll do it when I have someone to trade with, then. As of now, I don't, though my destroyer fleet is ideal for getting the no-name freighters where they're going in one piece.
Anyway, can we get on with the conference? I showed up and it died.

Don't worry Dark, I'm sure the Doms can find
something for your tradeships to haul around.

Well now that our mad plot is out in the open, you can trade with me openly now. I plan to have my remaining Mega tradeships headed your way loaded with farm suplpys and food manufacturing materials.

Not much of a plot if it's in the open after only one turn.

Hmm i've gotta ask, who is in charge of narrating the free Republic of Makay now exactly?
*Looks at offers of material, Melconians want to trade who knows what, KU wants to trade agricultural goods and the trixiat wants to sell luxury goods*

"Luxury goods" my ass. Makes me want to invest in planetary bombardment ships, this does.

Once the elections go off, probably me. The chances of the Makayan Syndicalists losing an election are slim, with Syndicalist forces already in place and the syndicalist resistance lionized by their fierce opposition to Makay when no one else would take part.

Why whatever do you mean? Are you implying the the High Council would make an underhanded deal with their sisters in the Chamaran Queendom?

Implying? No; I'm stating that you intend to provide them with human slaves for use as feedstock.

Ooooh, it would make the Syndicalists
so mad if the Makayans broke the terms of the treaty.

The Queen disavows all responsibility for any wayward clans who against her wishes would seek to underhandedly return to the humans-as-cattle ways of old.

You'd be in trouble it you did; it's a government's job to make sure it honors it's treaties.

Hmph, tsk tsk, so simply because we intend to establish diplomatic relations and free trade with an alien power who has been branded as a nation of "cannibals" (by a 'nation' of bomb throwing anarchists). We
must intend to supply them with human beings?
Typical, I suppose that if any of the other patrichal, sorry,
human powers elected to open trade with them, any suspicion on your part would vanish.

The government will, any clans revealed to be working against the Queen's wishes would not be considered to be worth of the Queen's protection. Essentially yeah sacrificial goat they'll probably let the Republic of Makay have the perpetrators.

I certainly intend on opening trade with the Chamarans; it will pratically be a necessity. However, your own little clique is a complete unknown. I don't think Nordkaldia even knows you exist. So there's no suspicion one way or the other.
And there's a world of difference between having a violent revolution and mind-wiping and eating people. The worst the Syndicalists do is some light thermonuclear omnicide and a smidgeon of kangaroo-court justice at the guillotine.

Odd point, I was under the impression that improved logistics helped reduce maintenance costs? Was I completely mistaken? Or more to the point, should it? Improved logistics, as the wiki puts it, is pretty much useless. A lot of factions have points invested in it, and it would give a couple of you guys about 40 points to play with. I don't think it is really unfair, as those points could have made your ships 10 points bigger, given 10 points more of any ability, and we want to make abilities that make people want to play the long game.

I'd go for it (of course). I bought points in it because I eventually intend to have far-ranging warfleets that will be away from home for several turns at a time; I currently have four far-ranging frigates out poking around, but so far nobody except the Humanist Union really knows that. But for right now, it's essentially not doing a thing for me.
In other news:
"Molochi Control, this is
Courageous. Are you going to give us an approach vector, or do we have to blow something up to get attention around here?"
