A thought just occured to me on scale. How big are everyones ships? I mean the Chamaran's biggest is 1.5km long and that's the somewhat sprawling Dominion class 60 point battleship. How big does everyone else make theres by comparison?

I didn't specify sizes because no one ever agrees as to what good sizes are.

Ship scale doesn't matter that much. The tech bases are really different, and since pretty much everyone can build 10+km tall skyscrapers and other bullshit Mega-architecture, the limits are economy and functionality.

My Athenas are comparable in size, but since they're intended as mobile planetary invasion ships (not to mention the technological gap), they aren't as heavily armed or armored.
The Valks, are pretty big for their point value as well. (probably just shy of an aircraft carrier in size)
The rest are pretty small though, around the size of the Defiant.
EDIT: well, not as heavily armed with ship to ship weaponry.

I haven't specified, for reasons similar to Thirdfain's.
The rules aren't entirely clear; are Stealth points divided by one tenth of the base cost, or one tenth of all costs besides Stealth? A strict reading suggests the latter, but the only example provided is of a ship with only S specialization, so it isn't certain.
If the former, the frigate's Stealth rating is 21; if the latter, it's 11. They're not going to do anything except watch, presuming the ambassador's shuttle is unmolested. If they're detected, they'll claim a hyperdrive malfunction and jump out a moment later.

Big enough.

My god, Hellion, you are screwed if it comes to war. Your troops won't open fire, they'll be too busy fucking.

Mindi ain't a trooper. She's just a girl looking for a good time. Her sis is just a messenger for her bro.
You also haven't seen some of the cybernetics. You act like fucking can't win you a war.

And i remember people teased me for giving the Chamarans swords on the battlefield of the year 13k.
And now Hellion wants to use sex-ware to win the war.

Are we waiting for Dark Hellion to declare the start of Turn 2, or can we post stuff for the new turn anytime? I'd like to at least launch my new fleet and take care of internal matters, even if it would be bad form to start screwing with other people.

Er, well did we decide that Improved Logistics is a discount on maintenance or not?
Because if we did I'm going to change my construction plans.

Well me and Darkevilme are still conducting negotiations even though turn one is done. I don't have any objections to people posting about internal fluff stuff.
Oh BTW Darkevilme, the melconian's would be interested in trading luxury goods and high tech devices like mind control devices.....
And I should be posting on the capping event of our diplomacy tonight.

I say yes; as far as I can tell no one else paid attention.

If we ARE going to main Improved Logistics also affect fleet maintenance, I'll be adjusting my announced production. That might happen anyway, depending on things in the Molochi Summit.
Just a heads-up.

Same here, obviously, as it would give me additional points. Spending them is sort of a no-brainer.
If we do change Logistics to do that, how much would it save per point?

by Ohma
Maybe -1% for every ten points? Bottoming out at 1% maintenance for all ships per turn?
EDIT: or -1% for every 20 points?

by Lancer
Please do tell, I'd need to go back bump up production if improved logistics did so.

Well I like the idea of having improved logistics reduce maintenance costs at the rate of for every 10 points -1% decrease (so for 100 points you would have to pay 30 percent of shipcost instaed of 40%). If that's too powerfull -1% for every 20 points works quite well too.
I could see this getting abused if people put 400 points into logistics or something like that though. Perhaps you can only do improved logistics until it cuts maintenance in half or some other limit?

I was thinking every point represents a .1% lessening. Maxing out at 500 points? I think it is fair, as a ton of us have it, and it doesn't do anything currently, outside of a few very rare situations.

That could work for us. Not to powerfull, but still usefull. My 150 pts. init would reduce maintenance costs by 15 percent for instance.

The 10% decrease in maintainence that 100 points would get you would refer to 10% of the 20% fleet cost, yes?

by Dark Hellion
If you think about it, it is very fair. You spend a large chunk of your faction points, about 3000 industry points worth, and you get an extra battleship per turn. It'll take you about 60 turns to catch up. The big thing is that you get little bonuses, and when finances are tight you eek by better.

Err Dark, do you mean that it reduces maint by a percentage of maint (eg. 20-((x*20)/100)=y where x is my Improved Logistics value), or is it just straight up 20-x=y?
Posted: 2008-06-24 05:36pm
by Rogue 9
I'm running with percentage of maintenance; i.e. with a 2000 point fleet, maintenance would normally be 400 points, and 100 points in Improved Logistics would take 40 points (10% of 400), not 200 points (10% of 2000) off of that.
