There's no more hope for 00 than there is for a good CE series after GSD...

There is a good CE series after Destiny - it's called Stargazer. Which is perhaps stretching the definition of 'series' a little, but it was CE and it was frankly quite excellent.

Not only is it only 3 episodes, but it takes place pretty early in Destiny's own time frame, when it was most watchable anyway.

Just a little news on Gundam 0081 (or whatever they're going to call it), its a PS3 game in the same style of Gundam: Lost War Chronicles. It looks like it has anime cutscenes. I speculate that it may have either a tie-in manga or OVA movie.

Actually, I'm thinking you've got that backwards and it's an OVA with a tie in game. That's what I'm hoping anyway.

So we open with Hathaway...er... Saji trying to convince Four...I mean, Quess...no Louise, to stop fighting and live for the future. Andrei tries to intefere but he's totally worthless. A suicide suit crashes int the Regnant as it gives 00 Raiser huuuuuuuuugz. We continue with Tieria talking to Ribbonz about Innovator crap. Turns out Billy has a magic Automaton remote control (works with your VCR too). Billy is mad as hell, but Sumeragi won't back down. We're back with Lyle vs. Ali and that corridor has gotten a lot bigger to facilitate a final battle. Poor GN Archer has lost an arm (mai waifu ;_;) as Marie takes a Gaga to the face. One thing to watch out for is as Lasse fires his beam rifle, a energy gauge like the original Gundam shows up. The 0 Gundam shuts down due to lack of particles. Setsuna is able to wrestle Louise out of the Regnant (somehow) and Saji takes her away from the battle. Ribbonz once again demonstrates his quickdraw abilities as he shoots Tieria (mai waifu ;_;) several times in the chest and once in the head for good luck. Saji and Louise are now in the base. Louise, sensing my feelings, tries to choke Saji. Sadly, she stops due to the power of flashbacks. Setsuna goes TRANS-AM and starts hearing voices. Louise appears to die from brain trauma. We cut to several different parts of this desperate battle, and as Setsuna hears the cries of his comrades his anger activates the 00 Raiser TRANS AM BURST MODE. As an immense volume of GN particles fill the surrounding space, the ghostly voice of Regene proclaims Setsuna as a true Innovator. Allelujah even hears the voice of Hal. Billy hears Sumeragi's apology straight from the heart and puts his gun down. Marie and fucking Andrei are still alive. His still mad at his dad (even though he fucking killed him) and then baws like a little kid! Louise is still alive (darn). Setsuna goes to see Veda. Regene is now a ghost in the Veda as is Tieria. Seraphim reactivates and pulls a super TRIAL system attack which causes every badguy to shut down. Lyle fails to kill Ali with his MS. He goes on foot and despite some ghost voices from Anew, manages to shoot Ali in the throat. Tieria speaks to Setsuna from Veda about humanity's future in space. You'd think the show is over, but then Seraphim gets shot. Turns out Ribbonz has this stupid Guncannon looking thing, which is the final boss. End of episode.

In retrospect, Nadesico's ending wasn't even this cocked up.

Don't you even fucking mention that fucking waste of time. Honestly, what the fuck has she done in this damn show other than take up space. In the first season she was Setsuna's link to his past and a possible bridge to his future (SHE COULD HAVE BEEN LIKE A MOTHER TO... oh wait). There's barely enough time in the show to show her patting some kid on the head. And what about Ali? What was the point of him even being alive this season? Lyle didn't care at all about revenge, Nena didn't know that Ali killed her brothers until right when they FUCKING KILLED HER, and even Tieria didn't get a good stab at him. Seriously, what the fuck is up with Tieria in this episode? He gets shot like seven times even though in the previous scene he had the drop on Ribbonz! Hell, let's back it up and ask what was the point of A-LAWS? We went through two rescues, two Momento Moris, like five fleet battles, and one ELEVATOR DROP all of which lead to absolutely nothing. The show that worked so hard to bring in the civilian side of this massive war, dragged the only two characters from the side through hell just so they could fucking copy every other fucking Gundam show.

Fucking hell, 24 episodes later and nothing happened.

Ehhh... Wait wait wait, what are you talking about? Nena was right there watching from above in Throne Drei when her brothers were killed by Ali (S1 ep 22). She even tried to attack Ali when they met face to face because of it (S2 ep 10).

Ah right. I'm confusing the plot points that were brutally killed for the sake of time.

Magazine scans say it's got some sort of bit/funnel weapon, so maybe it can rocket-punch! That'd be awesome. Or it might just be Zeong-style lasergun hands, which would be less awesome.

This is 08-09 Sunrise. You shouldn't believe anyone's permenantely dead, not even if they've had a funeral and especially not if they've been shown as a human corpse version of Swiss Cheese.

Technically it was good old Tomino himself who opened that Pandora's Box (willingly or not), as infamous as he is for killing off cast members for real, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Patrick lived, since that's his eternal gimmick and we've already had a number of fake-outs in this series. There's always the rumored movie sequel on the horizon too.

And in a totally off-topic note, I'm far more interested in Shin Mazinger at this point.

I'm trying to think about it as the series is being true to its word. The tag was "Destroy the Rebirth" and that's exactly what's been going on. Everything they built up in S1 is being destroyed and/or squandered.

Also, unless Billy has a remote for the Gaga squad too, kick his but off the Ptolemy. "I armed an egotistical, supervillian-esqe madman because I think it sucked you played with my unspoken love for you, HUG ME!!" At least Kati had a good reason for working with A-LAWS and wanting to fight Sumeragi.

I made this post on mechatalk. Chris is such a belligerent bastard, so I'll post it here, where it will obviously be more appreciated. This is in response to someone hating on Marie. I think it sums up one of Season 2's biggest problems.

If I may add my opinions about the whole Soma/Marie thing. I think part of the issue is that for all intensive purposes, Soma was a complete character by the end of season 1 and the beginning of season 2. We really got to know Soma and empathize with her. With the advent of Marie, we now have to accept that this is how she's supposed to be. Not knowing the whole story at the beginning can be irksome. It's actually quite similar to what long running Shonen titles tend to do. Like in Hokuto no Ken when they started to introduce Jagi and the other brothers of Hokuto Shin Ken. None of that existed in the story up until that point, but they took the time to fill it out through flashbacks. Similarly, we saw some flashbacks involving Allelujah and Marie. However, with the way Gundam 00 is structured there is simply not enough time to delve into the relationship between two characters given the sheer number of active people in the show. At the point where Allelujah was being pushed further into the background (poor battery- kun), Marie didn't have much to do either. Even the whole death of Sergei thing couldn't push Soma/Marie out of the background for too long. The Andrei/Sergei plot is very similar in that once the audience was comfortable with Sergei, a new plot element was introduced that has huge dramatic impact for character whom had already been through his own personal arc at the end of season 1. It's sorta like giving Yazan a daughter or something during the last few episodes of Zeta. Given the fact that each season has to be self contained, time is precious.

Now personally, I think the show has too many characters running around and that has only hurt the show.

Mechatalk is moderated by a staff that literally has nothing else to do but look for ways to exercise their powers. Also, MAHQ is also the site that gave lots of high scores on episode reviews for Gundam SEED Destiny and Code Geass R2.

On a more related note, I haven't even been counting the characters with multiple personalities in my "too many characters in this series" posts.

I don't Chris can bring himself to actively hate anything popular. It's only things like Macross 7 or Gundam Wing that he'll bash because at the time it was fashionably to do so.

We should really make a list this is characters from the start of season 2. I'll make a list for the ones who were in season 1 and ones who were just in season 2.

Setsuna
Marina
Shirin
Allelujah/Hallelujah (well sorta)
Soma
Sergei
Billy
Graham
Nena
Wang
Hong Long
Tieria
Feldt
Sumeragi
Patrick
Kati
Lasse
Ian
Louise
Saji
Fucking Ribbonz
Prince Ali

So that's 22 named characters of varying importance. Remember, some of these guys were major antagonists.

And now for season 2 only characters

Bring
Divine
Hilling
Revive
Regene
Barack
Lindt
(feels) Goodman
Homer
Andrei
Marie
Mileina
Anew
Lyle
Hank Hercules
Klaus

So about 16 characters. So a total of 38 characters of varying importance who were contributing to season 2. I should probably lump Ribbonz in with the second crowd since he's mostly a non-entity in the first season. Bring and Divine are totally useless. Barack, Lindt, Homer, and Goodman are supposedly leaders within A-LAWS and probably should have the same presence as the Titans they are based on but they never really get any air time. Although Goodman got to fire a giant laser like twice. Hilling and Revive are just there for the smartasses. Andrei is just a fucking waste and we all know why. I'm sure I missed a few people, but I think even if you go by the numbers Season 1 and 2 are not balanced. It really feels like someone is trying to cram two Gundam series into one show except with more friggen time skimps. Even if you cut Gundam and Zeta Gundam (or I guess Zeta and Double Zeta would be more appropriate) down to 25 episodes and made them once show, at least most of the antagonists would be dead! You can't set up the new big bad when the old ones are still running about doing their own thing. Hell, Graham is so disconnected with the main plot its gone beyond a joke.
