After nearly a day, people decide to blow up over this. Yea, this is rewarding..

The whole point has been it's not as simple as '10 to 1'. The Ares has 10 in EW, but EW tech is just two parts; that's demonstrating what I intended things to do. But if people really want to just slash and burn all that stuff, fine. It kinda stuffs the whole point of my power, as it'd put all ships well over the point limit of being useful, but eh, I can just watch.

Just put some points into it in every class then.

A day isn't a huge long time :?

I don't want to slash and burn *anything.* I just want the rules quantified a little bit better than "10 points in a trair count as a 1 point improvement for all ships."

Perhaps having a bonus apply globally to all ships should cost much more than placing it onto a single ship class.

Granted, I've been guesstimating for point totals in bonuses, but if someone wants all their ships to be OMFGWTFSLOWDOWN fast, then coughing up a large racial bonus for improved engines as a baseline might work, as that would allow for further customization as well.

This shit is getting too complex. Can we agree that dropping a couple points into a racial advantage grants a small advantage in that field, and get on with things?

by SirNitram
I need some kind of system to actually make rulings. Call it 'too complex' if you like, but I need some kind of yardarm without making it throttlingly expensive to raise tech. I'll remove tech if people are dissatisfied with it as implemented, because I've got no better way of doing it.

I'm totally cool with removing this technology stuff. I think simply putting points into the ships themselves is a great way to resolve this desire for racial uniqueness.

But having 10 points in tech provide an across the board increase in ship capacity ruins the whole point behind having a point system- as a barometer for how strong two forces in a fight are. Essentially, this makes it so all points are NOT equal.

Can we just leave it at advantages only applying to individual ships? You want EW, you buy ships with EW. You want strong shields, you buy ships with +defense. Going "x points makes all my ships better at y" is unnecessarily complicated and asking for trouble.

It would occur to me that points spent on individual ships > points spent on globals. Otherwise there is little to no point to spending points on individual ships. At that point, I would just spend 10 points or so on every advantage I could manage, and then that would apply to all ships hence, saving me shitloads of points that everyone else would be spending on making specialized ships.

In my mind, if you're going to be doing something to buff ships, you include it in the ships. "Other tech" should be something other than ships, like technology that brings your citizens back from the dead. If you're going to have racial buffs to certain techs, you shouldn't have to deal with buffs to ships, because then someone has to come up with some sort of crazy equation to figure out what bonuses each give, etc. and so forth.

One or the other, I say. It saves us confusion and headaches down the line.

Hmm, rulesmongering question, then - my Hel ships are stealth platform ships that are 10 points base, before bonuses - would they be safe for the new rule applying to cloaked ships, or are extra bonuses taken into account as well?

Extra bonuses count. The Ares was going to be effectively too big for it's britches.

Hmm, alright. Thank you - I'll heavily edit my OOB tonight.

Okay, general tech increases have been removed, can we still spend points on other stuff that doesn't relate to our ships or battle, like ground forces, internal security, and the like?

Yes. You can improve non-shippy-things.

Non-Shippy-Things would be a sweet name for a rock band.

You may not allocate points towards rock bands.

Unless said rock bands contain an anime-styled pop princess who can stop an armada with a song.

Then you spend everything you have on that.

And I kill it.

With fire.

If there is still room left, I would like to be considered for playing in this event. I do not have much development done yet, but I could easily do so in a few hours.
My summer has been quite boring, and something like this will help pass the time, as well as help me get better at writing in general.
If I can play, a PM would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Okay, redid by OOB. Significant changes are I am now just as fast and as hard to interdict as everyone else, a few of my ships have recieved EW upgrades, its now somewhat harder to infiltrate my people (because everyone seemed to be doing that) and you will now have to face Cthulhu in ground combat. That is all.

As fun as it would be having "racial bonuses" at this point I am all for just putting points into the ships themselvs if only to resolve all this bickering
