Updated OOB to show the restructuring of my Army.
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

Well... I did suggest that my economy ought to take 1% contraction somewhere (or zero growth).... though I would point out that my expenditure this year is at most 20% more since I had that carrier under construction last year and I have far fewer warships under construction this year.phongn wrote:I personally thing these massive defense buildups should have serious economic repercussions. If not simply deficit spending, something else, because otherwise it's absurd.
In 2009, PeZookia had financed 38.5 billion dollars of its budget with deficit spending, with a total spending on the level of 21.5% GDP. Poland does around 22% with a much higher yearly deficit and manages to have its economy grow at 5% annually (so far, anyways).phongn wrote:I personally think these massive defense buildups should have serious economic repercussions. Do you still want the Ocean Surveillance ships?PeZook wrote:In 2009, PeZookia had financed 38.5 billion dollars of its budget with deficit spending, with a total spending on the level of 21.5% GDP. I don't want 5%, though. Currently, PeZookia has a goal of 2% real growth, and bumping down inflation from 4% to around 1%. My defence spending is hardly runaway at the moment.
Oh! Right, I'll just edit Muszynki's statement a bitFingolfin_Noldor wrote:Just a side note, there are also Byzantine Peacekeepers in the Border States.
Hmm.. I guess I could get the Exarch to give you a tour of Byzantium while his majesty is in Messmerica...... and then he will return shortly to entertain you. The Exarch is given quite a bit of powers I might add.Karmic Knight wrote:I am so going to go to a Mercury 2 launch, since I am in the old continent.
Technically, Byzantium is pseudo socialist/capitalist. We have a full spread of banks and entrepreneurship. It's just that our health care and university education are co-pay, but progressive of course; how much one pays is pegged to his income level.PeZook wrote:Oh! aka everyone else.Norseman wrote:Astaria has no deficit, partially because it has no one to loan from, and partially due to an old fashioned obsession with a balanced budget. This might slide a little in the next couple of years, due to the need for self-defence against various aggressive foreign powers.
The Exarch is the guy who did the verbal sparring with President Hank, right? That would interesting, though I must now know if Shroomainia lives up to my expectation of the awesomeness of Brit Rock!Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Hmm.. Heh, in this case, PeZookia is far more socialistPeZookia wrote: Technically, Byzantium is pseudo socialist/capitalist. We have a full spread of banks and entrepreneurship. Education for us free up to pre-university. The reason being is that to hire the best professors and so forth, a socialist system would have made it pretty hard to retain them. Star Professors are pretty expensive to retain, and I didn't want them to head to Shroomania or some other place.PeZook wrote:Heh, in this case, PeZookia is far more socialist
Our education and health care are free. Of course, paying for all that is part of the reason why we can't spend outrageous sums on defence, but, well...as I outlined in my civil defence post, education is actually a major part of my civil defence system, so I guess it's a good investment
Heh.. The trouble with professors, is that once somewhere offers nice tenure, they will want to grab that.PeZook wrote:Well, you'd have to make them sign good contracts and make sure to revise their pay regularly. And, of course, universities can charge for some services, like weekend courses or PhD studies etc.
I'm sure the system will start breaking down out of neglect in a generation or two, though

Well, few military men historically do remove themselves from power after tasting forbidden fruit.... unless under severe pressure.SiegeTank wrote:So now I'm suddenly selling guns in the CFR... Well, I can't object much, it's probably what some intrepid traders would do, although it's definitely not a state-sanctioned business (not that that's gonna stop anyone). Still, the good General Helmut better remember that we helped save his hide, and we're none too pleased that he's still not restored civilian rule in his country either.
Feh. That's how it works: if a national leader comes to visit, a national leader goes to greet him (or, at the very least, meets with him later). It's just diplomatic etiquette. If you want to insult a nation, send an assistant deputy foreign minister to meet with their president and not bother showing up throughout the visit. War may not be guaranteed after that, but relations will sure as hell go sourKarmic Knight wrote: I have a very low opinion of myself, I wouldn't send a foreign minister to meet me.
Unfortunately, I am a bit indisposed when he comes visiting. On the other hand, the Exarch is a foreign minister in his own right, granted the powers of the seal of the Emperor.PeZook wrote:Feh. And there's the fact we're both royalty, too
I sense that someone might pull a Coilerburg soon though.Karmic Knight wrote:Um, I don't think Astaria will have to worry about any sort of arms build-up.
But I really haven't finished stas' post, so I might have read the end wrong.
