Doubtless there are bound to be a few odd rednecks with more alcohol budget than brains who will make fools out of themselves for the Secret Service's amusement in the coming months, but this is about as momentous as change can get.

Well, I'm thinking more along the lines of
Everybody Rejoice from The Wiz, but that works, too.

This campaign has been truly epic, much by the competence by Obama and his staff -- I would say the kind of material that could generate on of those great HBO 12 episodes mini-series.

Eh, force of habit. And those initial numbers on Prop8 really aren't encouraging...
No...no it isn't. At least Yes has slipped to 55% with only 9% of the districts reporting.

Seriously JD? Decriminalized completely? I didn't think I would see that happen in the U.S. until I was an old man.
I agree with whoever said it previously. I am finally proud of my country. For the first time since 18 or so hours after 9/11 I am proud of the U.S.

I'm online chatting w/ a super-conservative friend of mine:
Me: Thoughts on the outcome?
Him: Prepare for an increase in God's Wrath
Me: You think he'll send another hurricane like he did for the Bush presidency?

The oddest thing about the people crying tears of joy over Obama winning is that they would be making the exact same faces if he had lost.

Apparently, San Diego Prop 8 supporters have been trying influence votes at the ballot. Here's hoping the proposition ultimately fails.

I'm glad he showed a little dignity, but with the militant racism he's stirred up he's got to do a lot more. You know their are people in those crowds plotting coups now.
It's easy to maintain dignity when you have nothing left to gain by being a turncoat. Not to be too harsh in this historic moment, but he could have shown integrity when it was stuff, instead of waiting till now.

Not completely decriminalized, but an ounce or less only gets you a fine of like, $100 now. Like a speeding ticket, more or less:
Section 32L. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, possession of one ounce or less of marihuana shall only be a civil offense, subjecting an offender who is eighteen years of age or older to a civil penalty of one hundred dollars and forfeiture of the marihuana, but not to any other form of criminal or civil punishment or disqualification. An offender under the age of eighteen shall be subject to the same forfeiture and civil penalty provisions, provided he or she completes a drug awareness program which meets the criteria set forth in Section 32M of this Chapter. The parents or legal guardian of any offender under the age of eighteen shall be notified in accordance with Section 32N of this Chapter of the offense and the availability of a drug awareness program and community service option. If an offender under the age of eighteen fails within one year of the offense to complete both a drug awareness program and the required community service, the civil penalty may be increased pursuant to Section 32N of this Chapter to one thousand dollars and the offender and his or her parents shall be jointly and severally liable to pay that amount.

Electoral vote totals tend toward lopsided results, I'd say "landslide" if Obama gets clear by 7+ points in the national popular vote totals.

Colorado is voting in all the right people in the big races, but the down-ballot issues are a mixed bag. Ending this post prematurely to watch Obama's speech.
