I keep meaning to post the server, but for some stupid reason I can't seem to remember the names.... Thunderlord and Echo something-or-other. Picked Thunderlord on recommendation of a friend who is also there, and Echo-whatsit just at random.

Have one character up to level 10, another to level 8. Not bad for a couple days of play, ay?

Echo Isles. Only server with "Echo" in the name.

So you picked a normal and PVP server? Neither is RP. You're going to be drowning in l33t.

Honestly, from my time playing WoW there is not a lot of difference. It's not as if the RP servers really have a heavy RP atmosphere, much less actual RP beyond the most simplistic and lenient sense of the term.

Choosing between the two types is more down to whether one wants to deal with intermittent light RP or not.

The main difference is the naming policy means you won't run into hunters named "boomheadshot" or "deathstriker6666". As for the RP - you get what you put in. I did a lot of RP on my main.

RP servers at least have RP, you just have to find it...or get it inadvertantly.

My best is when I'm doing my good deed of the week(AKA I will blow through an instance) from a selection all the way up BRD sans Emperor(I need my Rogue pal for that) and I get someone who's into heavy RP. It's the best series of dialogue...usually consisting of something in Elvish or Dwarfish and myself going "No, STAY HERE! I'll RP with ya when I am not dealing with the Scarlet Horde."

But as to constant RP? I knew that would not happen because it would impoosible given everyone has a differing standard, but it does keep the basic retards out.

Spontaneous RP is a lot more rare than organised RP sessions, I've found. Spontaneous RP can be fun, but often when people get on, they're intending to do something specific, and it gets in the way of that.

I wish MMOs came with a basic tard filter: anyone with a supahmonk007 name is autoblocked and their messages aren't even shown. It'd make GW much more enjoyable, that's for sure. :)

Yes, I've heard it's addictive. I used to play D&D (actually, I was forced to be a Dungeon Master for several years) and remember getting sucked in for 16-20 hour marathons where we'd forget to eat and stuff. That's what you're talking about, right?

So --

What servers are you folks on? I think I'll opt for PvE for starters. Where should I look for you WoW folks?
I am Horde (Tauren Druid) on Dunemaul.

I have to agree, when I moved from roleplay servers to classics (daoc) it was hard to get used to the silly names though they are never that bad. The last expansion releasing Minotaurs as a playable race resulted in a lot of cow themed names though.

Not bad...the first 20 levels to be honest are the easiest. The next 20 after are a bit of a drag(Because it's heading to a mount), the last 20 are the most annoying because the sheer grind one has to do to get to 60.

Course they tell people that 61-70 promises to be as long as 1-60.

Has not been a problem. The worst I had was a 15th level asshole than challenged one of my characters to a duel when she was around level 4. I told him to get lost.

Yeah, that's pretty common, some people just like to be asstards.

Though I'll admit a early experience in dueling, was a level sixty challenging me as a level 8 (I was extremely new, my first character), and he just stood there, while I whacked him in the face with a shovel I just picked up off some kobolds......for like a hour....

that was one of the longest duels I've ever been in....

hilarious, but long..

the funny part are some of the interactions between people on different sides. One of my character's was soloing the dreadmines, when a team of horde started pulling off the undead and defias that were about to swarm me. I get a local defense paige. Hey have you seen an Undead lock, and 3 tauren including a druid? (Me: Yup they just saved my bacon over in the mines, we're both farming the same goons)

Yeah, that sort of unexpected interactions are most fun. I've had one yesterday when a buddy of mine and me were doing arenas while waiting in the queue for battlegrounds (we're on EU Twilight's Hammer). We kill off one of our two opponents who was a warrior, he logs off, and his partner goes all "don't kill me please", so we, being good guys that we are, don't, but rather stage A BOXING MATCH! :P

And a good talk about how the situation is on the other server.
