Actually as I remember from "Vector PRime" they captured a Coralskipper and indicated they were rather wanked out (something like the firepower/durability of a B-wing with the agility of an A-wing, I think it was.) Considering some of their biowank cheats that's not surprising - they could use those rock spitting cannons as weapons and propulsion, which means they are capable of rather significant firepower (Rebel Dream/REbel Stand mentioned they can fire "several kg" masses, which implies quite a substantial velocity when compared to the probable acceleration/mass of a Coralskipper. Alot more damage than alot of laser cannons.)Gustav32Vasa wrote: They're weaker then normal fighters but thanks to the yammosk all fighters work like one. When the Republic learned how to take out the yammosk, coralskippers didnt last long.

Actually to be shielded against lightsaber strikes and blaster impacts they probably WOULD need some measure of biowank insulation, since even tiny inefficiencies where the lightsaber is concerned would inflict severe burns on any bit of unprotected skin (close to charring, in fact.) Given that lightsabers also concentrate this on a very localized area... Hell regular stormie or clonetrooper armor incorporates some insane level of insulation as it is (they can walk through shield interfaces that would incinerate other troopers, according to the VDs.)Starglider wrote:Unfortunately while chemical and biological weapons work great against sane biotech, they are useless against no-limits biowank. They merely adapt, or have biological pathways that are immune to all known agents, or have antidotes for everything already in their bloodstream and hyper-immune systems etc. Incendaries won't affect the armour if it can resist lightsabers, but they should cook the wearers. It would take some truly ridiculous 'energy absorbing armour' to survive direct hits, though I expect the biowankers to shrug off such minor inconveniences as smoke inhalation, oxygen depletion and blast waves from fuel-air explosives.Pablo Sanchez wrote:Let's say a huge carpet of various toxic gas shells,
Grenades and rockets aren't likely to do any more damage than blasters and slugthrowers; the later might kill be sheer impact (regardless of armour penetration) but I'm sure the biowank warriors are ultra-toughened against that.carrying flame projectors and incendiary grenades and rockets.
Napalm and thermobaric RPGs yes. VX definitely not; it's specific to mammalian neurochemistry and is unlikely to work on most alien species. However presumably the SW forces are very familiar with multispecies chemical warfare and specimens can always be captured for experimentation if required.Even if they had armor that could resist blaster fire, being coated in burning napalm, struck by a thermobaric RPG, or having a gust of VX blow across your cheek isn't something that a magic breastplate will even come close to protecting against.
That should work against the enemy as described, but there's no obvious reason why this magic crab armour can't be made as a full body suit (with a pressure suit/NBC layer underneath if required), so I suspect the Vong would start doing that if your tactics were successful. You're a super-warrior killing machine equipped with a staff made from a snake and magic crab armor? Here, try catching three gallons of jelly burning at 1200 Centigrade, genius.
Bear in mind as well that any sort of physical "incendiary" matter won't neccesarily contact the armour matter directly either, due to the technowank forcefields the armour supposeldy incorporates.
The only question is if the armour is fully enclosed or not (and how.) or whether it can. Any openings of course will cause problems (as I recall it was open-faced, but I haven't read the series in so long I can't be 100% sure in this regard.)
In one of the books didn't some members of Wraith Squadron and some Jedi get inserted into Coruscant disguised as Vong wearing vonduun crab armor, and pass themselves off as Vong to a patrol? That would seem to only work if the armor had a full-face helmet, given the sort of self-mutilation the Vong indulge in regularly.Connor MacLeod wrote:The only question is if the armour is fully enclosed or not (and how.) or whether it can. Perhaps the helmets had a faceplate and a lot of the blithering idiots...er...Vong warriors simply kept it up most of the time.
IIRC they were wearing some kind of disguise (based on a YV organism) at the time to make them look like Vong.Jaevric wrote:In one of the books didn't some members of Wraith Squadron and some Jedi get inserted into Coruscant disguised as Vong wearing vonduun crab armor, and pass themselves off as Vong to a patrol? The Killiks attacked chiss ground forces with:
1.meter long flyers
2.bloodsucking locusts that bypassed armor
3.biological diggers
4.fist sized flyers used as fighters
5.hand to hand soldiers with heavy armor and jump ability
6.vilip replicas
7.30 meter long bio tanks
All of that is direct from wookiepedia. All were used to destroy a Chiss army on the ground, and succeeded despite the Chiss using insecticide and flamethrowers from behind a theater shield that stopped ground troops. The bio tanks ripped through the theater shield.

I'm also pretty certain it was open-faced, but not 100%. If it is, incendiaries would be very much fatal to them.Connor MacLeod wrote:The only question is if the armour is fully enclosed or not (and how.) or whether it can. Another point is that, however resistant the armor was to heat from a lightsaber, a flamethrower or other incendiary weapon attacks the entire surface area of the Vong warrior, rather than a single point. The flames could find avenues of attack not open to a lightsaber, like napalm running into the joints and reaching flesh that way. Secondary effects, e.g. total blindness and sucking up all of the available oxygen around the Vong, would also play a part.

Because when the lame EU author is busy scraping through the bottom of the barrel for yet another "galactic threat" it would defeat their purpose to have it get squashed in a matter of seconds to inconvenient in universe equipment, like E-webs.
Just like other authors with their stupid elites that they'll do stupid stuff to protect them from plebian weaponry, that they don't follow through with.
