What you just described was what I meant by 'death throes', plus the whole release of the AI into the open in the first place. I can see a lot of data being lost, especially in government facilities where they steal like there's no tomorrow. Admittedly, it would be very short 'death throes', but I still think the metaphor works.

Hmmm... perhaps we could somehow tie the damage caused by Microsoft's little experiment in copyright protection and the subsequent backlash into some of the long term causes of the Oil Wars. Perhaps critical research data was deleted and forced an extra few decades of oil dependence that resulted in the wars?

My organization has no direct Terran ties as its members would have come from many different colonies prior to establishing a base under the command of the previous Pirate King. Once we get a star map up, I'm going to need a world on the edge of human territory where we can go reaving from.

Would anyone wish to ally themselves with the Empire of the Sun to crush the Software Patent Enforcement Intellect?

At this time, the Republic of Poland is unwilling to commit it's forces to such a venture until more information exists on this "SPEI." Reports as to it's attitudes and goals are sketchy at best. Does the Empire have any coherent evidence that the SPEI is in fact dangerous?

I think the more relevant question is who in their right mind would ally with the SPEI? A Microsoft lawyer AI? That's so evil it makes Daleks seem almost benevolent.

Indeed. At leas the Daleks have the decency to just kill you.

Well, civilizations that have a completely different computer architecture such that there is no physical way that Microsoft could have ever put a patent on it might be able to get along. Plus, this lawyer seems more intelligent than today's copyright lawyers considering it didn't fight to the bitter, screaming, embarassing death but hid for a while. It obviously, somewhat incredulously for a copyright lawyer, has the capacity to prioritize targets.

All that is known is that the "SPEI" has screeched threats over percieved wrongs. They mention "gold farming", whatever that means in your human culture...

The Co-elective Elements of the Co-Operative are curious to meet their fellow non biological brethren. We will have one of our ships explore their sector, and we would be willing to carry out any scouts for other powers who wish to investigate. Our cruisers would love to work.. with our fellow people

The Hegemony of Heavens does not fear any self-proclaimed AI with delusions of grandeur. We have our own patent lawyers ;)

United States of America still has the records of the former Microsoft Corporation on file, and should be able to assist in relations with this AI.

With all the people coming to Earth for a meeting, it occured to me:
shouldn't we, as Earth nations, have one shared intra-system astro control? It would seem utterly inefficient and not to say stupid if each and every power would try to regulate each and everyone else.
What say you?

I would concur with this idea of an Intra Solar System Police to have general authority in the wastes, and to also manage all ex-solar travel. We all have seats on their head board, but it works quite well.

Some kind of arrangement would have been made or evolved.

A Pan-Terrestrial Transit Authority would be a fantastic idea; as a matter of fact, the Polish Republic was planning on enlarging the traffic control facility at Katowica station (20 points to be spent next quarter.) We could establish a Board with all major terrestrial nations having a vote in the event that we need to make decisions, with majority rule. Does that sound fair?

The Republic would be glad to foot the bill for the system-wide transit tracking and and traffic control system as a sign of our interest in improving relations with our Terrestrial neighbors.

The Co-Operative would request to spend additional funds (20 ) on sensing out traffic Near Earth as to defend our collective homeworld in case of invasions

Such a system-wide tracking system as the one we are currently building would be capable of detecting incoming fleets at the limit of current technology.

While Poland's offer is indeed generous, Portugal believes that it would be in the best interests of the Sol community that a multi-national transit authority be set up, run jointly by all nations involved. The safety of Sol is not Poland's responsibility, but every Earthbound nation's duty. We propose the formation of the International Transit Authority Trans Sol (ITATS). An international joint venture such as this should foster cooperation between the involved and help maintain the security of Sol.

The Stellar Dominion Agrees with Portugal on this matter. No one nation should hold sole responsibility for the protection of Terra.

The Hegemony concurs with Portugals assessment. This is no small matter that should be placed in the hand of just one nation, whoever this is.
Known for their neutrality, we think Switzerland is the most logical placement of the oversight committee for a joint astro control.

While the Logos Centrality does not possess territories on the mother world, the promotion and security of peace traffic through the solar system while respecting the security needs is a matter of great importance to all of Sol's nations.
