They even had the balls to name the Separatist (Confederacy of Independent Systems) rehash the freaking Confedera

I haven't read a lot of the SW novels, even from the Bantam era. Despite how much I hear they suck, I've thought about reading some of them just to know what happens, and out of the possibility that I might actually enjoy them. But I don't think I even want to waste my time reading this
Legacy of the Force series, which is so blatantly copying the prequel trilogy.
I'm not an rabid EU hater like some. (I just want it to start over) I don't like it as a whole, but on a case by case basis, some of it is pretty enjoyable.
The original Han Solo trilogy, as well as the Lando trilogy, I remember with fondness.
The Zahn stuff is pretty good. Sometimes a little minimalist though.
The two books that sandwhiched ROTS were also good.
Those would be my recomondations if you just wanted to read some Star Wars.
I also haven't been able to read the LOTF series, although I have the first one sitting on the desk. I am just NOT excited about it at all.

Obi Wan making a statement that implies he is no longer a Jedi Knight does not mean there are more!
No more alive or no more living as Jedi Knights. It's only with Yoda's death scene we get any indication that Luke is the last one alive, and that makes the drama more effective. Still doesn't mean it's absolutely true. I think I even read Lucas saying in an interview there were others alive but the films do not focus on them.
Either way, that's still one scene out of two where the Jedi Order's fate is mentioned to be severe.

The beacon sub story in ROTS implies that there are Jedi that might not have been killed by Order66 and that if they did survive, they were to go underground. From that point on, it is going to be a matter of how thourough Vader was in hunting the remaining Jedi down. It seems more likely than not that at least a couple Jedi survived the purge.
However if this was the case where were they? Once they knew Vader and the Emperor were defeated why didn't they resurface? Re-establish the Jedi Order, or at least help Luke with his new one. I know that there were a few that survived, like I stated in an earlier post, Vida Vambooda (sp?) The Steampunk King, but again these two were lost to the Force and to the galaxy respectively. Yoda probably believed them to be dead.
When Obi-Wan says "I was once a Jedi Knight...", keep in mind that he also says "Now the Jedi are all but extinct.". That coupled with Yoda's line and the lack of Jedi comming out of hiding, leads me to believe that Luke was indeed the last of the Jedi.
Another thought, Obi-Wan and Yoda were communing with Qui-Gon during the time Luke was growing up. It's very possible that he would be able to tell them if and where Jedi may still be alive and hiding.

I think I'll pass judgment on the Krayt business until Legacy 16 comes out. See how the point headed people at Del Rey will explain it. I've liked Legacy so far, so I think it should be a plausible one (certainly better than what KJA or Hambly has been shoving around)

Just want to point out, that LFL is probably going to contradict ROTJ when they show surviving Jedi in their coming TV-series.

Del Ray has nothing to do with Legacy. It's Dark Horse Comics.

Well the live action series is set between ROTS and ANH so you can still have surviving Jedi from order 66 that Vader can kill before ROTJ

Gee, lotsa folks here seem disappointed in Krayt being revealed as A'Sharad Hett.
Personally, I wanted Krayt to turn out to be either Kir Kanos or Palpatine's grandson Ken. Now how cool would it have been to have the last Imperial Royal Guard realize the force-potential within him and go on to lead the Sith and the overthorw and destruction of the Jedi?
Or what about Ken, the hidden grandson of Palpatine himself from the old Jedi Prince series? Having him turn out to be Krayt guarantees tons of story potential.
Anyone else think either of these to would have been better identities for Krayt?

Short answer. No.
Slightly longer answer

Not at all.
The whole Imperial Guards with OMG FORCE POTENTIAL is fucking lame. The Emperor would have never allowed a Force user that potentially powerful to either A. LIVE or B. Not be of more use than a pretty guard.
As for Palpatine's grandson...

News to me. I shall investigate.
Edit: Uh no... Ken Palpatine?

That would be LAME squared or something.

I think you should start writing for comics immediately. You'd fit right in?

Fer the love of pete... don't. Just don't.
Yes, I bought the whole set. I was young, dumb and impressionable. Kids books with Star Wars slapped onto the cover seemed like an awesome idea to me at the time.

I see you've never been introduced to the "Jedi Prince" series.
In short, it was a 'young reader' series from the early 1990s that was apparently written without regards for the Thrawn Trilogy or any other part of the Expanded Universe (and, quite frankly, the films themselves). Since its publishing, the books have been so heavily reteconned that they are almost totally irrelevant to the larger SW universe. I'm not even sure if Ken still canonically exists, and if he does, he was more than likely a minor Jedi who ended up gutted on a stake by the Yuuzhan Vong during their invasion.

Ken definitely still exists. He (and Triclops) has an entry in the Essential Guide to Characters, in which their entire activities from the GoDV series is referenced, and hence full C-Canon.
In fact, the work has been referenced so much in other sources that, while the books themselves are only S-Canon, most of the events and characters within are C-Canon.

I can't understand that the Triclops/Prophets of the Dark Side garbage was made into C-canon. Junior novels should be excluded from the canon.

I for one think a SW universe without

I can't believe they were ever even written in the first place.
I read them years ago, but later, I realised they were just bloody stupid beyond definition. But yet, some LFL employee must have figured he/she didn't want to admit his/her childhood got raped and included that in.

Hey, when I was 8 and read these, they kicked ass....actually, I thought they were crap even then. The son of Palpatine? A hidden city of the Jedi on Yavin 4? WTF?
And to top it all off, there's a galaxy-wide search for Darth Vader's magical glove of doom, cybernetic implants that let a pretender fake Force lightning, and a Princess Leia robot (personally, I think they threw that part in to appease the type of people who buy sex dolls...) who ends up killing the main villain!

SW is kinda funny that way. A lot of other fictional universes have very strict and limited canon, usually extending only as far as the show/movie itself. Spin-off novels, toys, video games, etc. are usually treated as non-canon.
SW tries to fit EVERYTHING in, to a fault. They don't look at something and say "this is fucking stupid, and doesn't even fit in with the rest of canon." Instead, they make labored retcons and stretch credibility in an attempt to fit everything in, and throw nothing out.
BTW, can anyone with these books answer a question for me? I vaguely remember reading a disclaimer on those books saying that they were NOT authorized, when I first saw them over a decade ago. Did this actually exist, or am I imagining things? Because if it's for real, it was later reversed and the books were made into (crappy) canon.

I really wish the Endor cartoons would go away. The Sun King shit and all that provides all sorts of ammunition to the Endor Holocaust denial crowd if they're desperate enough to stoop to that level.
I was kind of hoping that Krayt would turn out to be Kyp Durron.

Does Hett even have a fan base? I haven't been to TF.N for ages to save my brain from hemorrhaging.

now why the hell would someone think that Ken being Darth Krayt would be a bad idea??? I think that the idea had immense potential. Since Ken had been so shittily written for in his only previous appearances, this would have been the chance to redeem the character, because the mere fact that he's Palpatine's grandson gives him a lot of story potential. And it wouldnt have hurt to have finally found out twhat the hell happenned to him.
As for Kir Kanos, that also had potential. He was the main character in the Crimson Empire comic series. As the last member of Emperor Palpatine's Royal Guard, he was responsible for destroying Carnor Jax, a member of the Royal Guard that had recieved training in the ways of the Sith from Lumiya and was responsible for Palpatine's demise and the elimination of the Guard. In his last duel with Kir Kanos, he mentions tells Kanos of his potential in the Force, but is cut down by Kanos. Since all of the Royal Guards were required to have latent Force sensitivity, and some could even become Dark Jedi, this meant that Kanos, who had the potential to become Sith Lord, could have later become Darth Krayt.

Ken ain't confirmed as Palpatine's grand kid.
I'm a fan of the Triclops-as-Plagueis-type-experiment theory myself.

Wrong, only the Sovereign Protectors had to be Force Sensitive, the rest are elite stormtroopers or purpose designed clones.

Wait, there is fanon speculation about how to fit in the idea of Palpatine's son into the canonical series? How does that work out?
