That's not possible, is it? Metroid Prime 3 explains the origin of Mother Brain (the space pirates raided a Federation ship and stole the Aurora unit in the beginning), who you kill in Metroid 1.
The manual to Metroid Prime 1 specifically states that it occurs after Samus "seemingly" destroyed Mother Brain on Zebes. It also says that some of the Space Pirates were trying to resuscitate Mother Brain, while others went to Tallon IV in search of a new energy source (phazon). (Thus occurring after Metroid/Metroid: Zero Mission but before Super Metroid.)

Wait, there's a trick? I always shot them over and over and over and over while jumping from side to side and taking a heckuvalot of damage. What is this trick?

And you have no idea. When you return to the Leviathan you're going to find Phazon Metroids in addition to those Hoppers. You have no idea how annoying that'll get. :D

Already found the Metroids. The trick I found was to go to Hyper Mode and they disintegrate in like four shots

Also, the entire section of Elysia where you enter the Pirate complex, find dozens of Pirate bodies with descriptions like "killed by multiple enemies,""killed by self-inflicted rifle shots," "killed attempting to reach safety after being paralyzed from the waist down," all of which give you this sense of "holy crap, what happened here?" You then go into the research lab proper, and discover tanks full of... Metroids. And some of them are empty. Of course, your objective necessitates powering down the force fields keeping the Metroids enclosed, and after you do so it's extremely white-knuckle as you expect Metroids to pop from the floors and ceilings at any second. Then you escape from the complex, gunning Metroids the whole time, and then you turn around and see the whole facility overrun with them. Superbly done.

Did anyone else go back to Norion and fight the Metroid Hatcher?

I found one of them in the Space Pirate base actually, I haven't been back to Norion. You're talking about the one that spawns Phazon Metroids and you have to rip the legs off it, right?

Also, how many missles does everyone have? I'm at 160.

I think the coolest moment I've had was when I went back to Bryyo...I saw a spot on top of a mountain that my command visor showed something could be placed on. I had a Wii-less friend who traditionally sits in on Metroid games with me and we help each other brainstorm. So we start talking about what to do and I remember a giant head with a grapple point, so I go back to that area, and have my ship carry the giant head and put it on that mountain.

There was an object that required a large force to destroy, so I told my friend "I bet it'll roll down the mountain and smash it." Once the head was in place, suddenly the entire mountain just stood up and we suddenly realized that the entire mountain was a gigantic War Golen and we both almost jumped in surprise. Then it smashed the object. Was awesome :D

I'm a little dismayed right now because it seems like I'm almost finished with the main story. I'm over 75% done at around 12:30 playtime and I have a protect mission coming up, so I decided to go back and travel through some prior missions on Bryyo and G.F.S Valhalla. Just did what you described before posting, and I'm really glad I didn't have the Ship drop the Golem head in the Hanger Bay to save before continuing on through the Orange Door!

I'm really pissed that the Pirate Homeworld is basically all orange. Didn't Retro learn from the ugly Dark World in MP2 at all?

Anyone know what the "Pirate Code" you get from the G.F.S Valhalla is used for?


BTW, I think I'm around 175 missiles, with only one energy tank missing.

I...I just beat the game...

Can't believe I had that much free time this weekend. Being sick sucks.

I got 70% completion. I hear there's a secret ending at 75% and another secret ending at 100%...I'll go for the 75% one.

Just finished with 100%! At the very end I gave in and checked the Gamespot guide for the last couple missile expansions. 16:08, for those who want to know, on Normal difficulty.

Super Secret Spoilers follow for those who don't wish to wait all the way until they have 100% of all items! Based on the way the cinemas go, I think I know what the 75% and 100% endings are:

75%- There's a shot of Samus sitting besides her ship in Elysia, overlooking the clouds at the Skytown Alpha landing dock. Memories of the Bounty Hounters that were corrupted and that she had to kill flash on the screen. I'm glad they added this scene- it looked in the very beginning like the Hunters had a good rapport going, and it must have been...unfortunate for Samus to know she had to kill them.

100%- she picks herself up off the dock, goes to her ship, shows the zero suit, looks sassy at the screen. The ship takes off into hyperspace, vanishes, and then a bad ass green ship drifts on screen and takes off right after her. Shaped kind of like a beetle. Does that remind anyone of people from Prime: Hunters? I never played it.


I'm going to sandwich this between the original Prime and Echoes as far as overall enjoyment. The game is very well paced, and manages to have you explore the worlds without giving you a checklist of items to obtain. Echoes is a good example of doing it wrong: everything came to a screeching halt when you had to find the 3 keys to reach the boss. The control scheme is excellent, and so well done that it makes the lock-on GCN games feel like kids' play. Throughout the game, Retro lives up to its pedigree of stellar art design, and manages to put out some impressive visuals, too- not only in 60 FPS for 99% of the time, but Retro uses a lot of bloom lighting appropriately and effectively. Unlike, say, Nintendo in Twilight Princess (Lake Hylia in the morning, I'm looking at you). Also a shout out to the menu design in the series- Echoes was a little unwieldy, but overall every game has had some amazing music and visuals.

One of the bigger downsides is the shorter adventure- the original Prime took me 20 hours to finish at ~100%. Certainly, there is no fetch quest at the end of Corruption to pad the length, which in principle is a good thing, but it still felt like Corruption came up short someplace else. Additionally, unlike the GCN games which thematically had an atmosphere of isolation and separation, I don't think Corruption dealt with the new interactivity quite so well. Admiral Dane, you're annoying, and you look like Bean with your dumb hat. Planet hopping feels a little off, too- unlike the rest of the world, I liked Prime's backtracking, and thought the way Tallon IV was designed felt very natural. Acquiring pickups wasn't even really a task, just something that happened as you passed by objects or doors that you previously couldn't do anything with while passing through old world en route to new ones. In Corruption, though, each planet is basically self-contained. Wasn't that Warp effect sweet, though? I wish they'd found a way to work that in a few more spots. A bit surprisingly considering the opening theme, the music in some regions of the game was quite bad. It seems like in some spots (like in Thorn Jungle) they decided to go with amelodic, horror/slasher music, for reasons beyond me. At least I have a mute button, but it's not something I tend to use during a Metroid game.

On an arbitrary scale where the original Prime was a 10, Corruption would be around an 8.5-9. Definitely a solid, great pickup for a quality FPS-starved Wii gamer, but not the greatest in the series. And certainly nothing wrong with that.

Totally agree. Doesn't top Prime, but it's still awesome...and the best Wii title out there IMHO.

I took 15 hours to beat Prime and 14 to beat Prime 3, but I definitely came out with a higher completion rate on Prime 3.

I think though that the change in pace (you have friends, more mission based) was refreshing, but I hope future games don't stay that way; I like my exploration.

One of my biggest complaints with the Prime series is the lack of ugrades for the sake of upgrades. It would be nice to have a whole set of optional suit upgrades(ability to fire missiles as fast as the power beam, slowly regenative shields which even at one point a second would of made a difference in some of the boss battles, spacer beam) not required to unlock a new door or access new areas, just there to make you more bad ass.

It has however fixed some of my complaints, such as the beam weapon upgrading over time, rather than having to use the same beam weapon you started with through out the game(holy fuck did I ever hate the Power Beam Pirates in Prime).

Oh, that's a good idea. I think Retro's done a good job, but it might be time to hand over development to a new dev group for a fresh perspective. Corruption was fun, but I didn't see too much that made me think they could pull out anything drastically different for a 4th game.

That's right, we never got them did we. The missiles were pretty much just the Ice upgrade, and the Seeker Missiles.

Other thoughts:
  • Those floating energy globes that you found when you backtracked through previous areas were really annoying.

    The Grapple Beam in this game was awesome. I loved sucking enemies dry.

    Does anyone know what the "Pirate Code" you got from the Valhalla was used for? The best I can guess, it was to pilot the Leviathan to Phaaze.

Yes it was, the Skytown Aurora tells you so.

Just beat the game. 70% completion, 21:56 playtime. The final boss was a very nice touch. Aurora 313

EDIT: Also, who was the skeleton at the bottom of the Leviathan incubator pit? The one it says you saw on Tallon IV?

It was a new Metroid Prime. It was clearly the leg of Metroid Prime's exoskeleton, and Metroid Prime was the creature inside the phazon crater. Metroid Prime was a heavily mutated Metroid, and became Dark Samus...I dunno if Dark Samus was growing a new Metroid body or just more Metroid Primes.
