Brilliant!
I'll add more text so this isn't a +1 post. I think that kinda shows how well it'd work with the game, and how much fun it'd be to use it alongside actual firearms. Being able to fire a gun through the portal is just awesome. I want to see what happens when we make a badguy fall into a hole and come out ontop of a steep drop. ;D

The guy using the portal gun has a very poor imagination. I would have taken that combine guard that makes you pick up the trash and taken him for a very long fall..

Except enemies and NPCS can't use the portals in any way. The enterprising modders are hoping some enterprising modders will make it so that they can.

I guess that would present a small problem...

I'm playing through Episode 2 and it's been pretty annoying at times. It feels like half the game's been "lol antlions".
But then I just started playing Ep 1 when I got Orange Box, and it's been annoying how much of the game is "stand back and watch Alyx play the game for you".

But that doesn't prevent you from using the portal gun to hurl large and obnoxious objects over large distances to squish your foes, at least. The fun with grenades!
As an aside, I just finished Portal and Episode 2, and.. wow.
I don't think I've been so gripped by a game in several years like I was gripped by Portal. The setting was just... brilliantly crafted, in my opinion, and I honestly felt scared and alone, especially as the levels progressed and you find more and more broken alcoves marked with the empty cans of beans and water and the insane, mad writing on the walls. I was captivated completely and utterly by the game. And it's been a while since I laughed that hard while gaming. I love GLaDOS.
And episode 2 had my jaw dropping the entire time. And good god... G-man is starting to really, really freak me out.
both are great games, in my opinion. Now.. With commentary!

I love how GLaDOS's morality core is the only one of the spheres that don't talk or move at all. Creepy.

The cake was moist and delicious.
Also, the red-eyed ball was a psycho.

Woot!
All Golds!
Those last two levels were a pain in the ass to do on least steps.

I'm up to that bit now. Where the fuck's the ammo? I've taken out the first few striders and the pistol doesn't do too well against those Hunters.

There's plenty of ammo in the various outposts the rebels have set up around the area. Quite a few orbs, and nothing quite kills Hunters like OSIPR orbs (except that guy from City 17's fists).

Portal rocked hard. I haven't played HL2 in years, nor have I ever played Episode One, so I'm playing HL2, E1 and then E2.

There's some ammo in the support sheds along with the health and teleporters, but the impression I got was that you're supposed to try and run down the Hunters with the car.
It's seriously irritating. I didn't realize at first that the Hunters were shooting the balls and making it so they wouldn't stick to the Striders, so that was enormously frustrating.
But then a lot of Eps 1 and 2 feels like a big contrived "HAY GUYS GRAVITY GUN GRAVITY GUN ISN'T THE GRAVITY GUN AWESOME YOU NEED TO USE THE GRAVITY GUN SOME MORE GRAVITY GUN OH DON'T WORRY ABOUT SHOOTING ANYTHING THAT'S WHAT ALYX IS FOR HAY ALYX ALYX ALYX GRAVITY GUN ALYX GRAVITY GUN OH MY IS SHE FLIRTING WITH YOU OH MAN ISN'T THIS TOUCHING FOR THE LONELY NERDS OUT THERE"
...well okay more like just "GRAVITY GUN GRAVITY GUN" but still.
What the hell, it was fun most of the time.

It's apparently faster than using your guns, but the amount of time I saw a friend get his car into really odd places turned me off the idea. It's not like there's a shortage of ammo if you're on the Striders' asses.

See a dead resistance member, get rockets from his corpse and shoot the hunters. Also, drive over to another shack, get the goodies there, and I think after a while drive back and get goodies from the other shack. There's too much open space if you drive out to meet the Striders and Hunters, so sometimes I'd just harass them a little bit and wait until they got close the base before using the cover from the houses to take them out. Really wish the resistance guy with the rockets would target the Hunters, not waste them on the Striders.
One core from the combine rifle should kill a Hunter, so don't miss.
The scene was one of the few games to make me freak out, actually. More Striders? Oh no!

We’ll then next time try listening to what the characters say, because they specifically warn you about that, and running the things down with a muscle car is far more fun then rocket spamming them to death ever would be. I like the fact that Half Life tries to be more then just another shoot everything that moves game. If I want that I’ll just play BF2 on an infantry only server with uncaptarabul bases and watch as I get 100 points and twenty kills in five minutes.
I fucking hate the very ending of Episode 2 though, and it seems to me like they just did it to give themselves a free hand to write crap plot they want for Episode 3.

They have the damn invulnerability flag set because you have to kill them with a some stupid gimmicky physics of tagging them with a horrible handling sticky grenade.
Same for the only chopper you down early too.
I second that where was way to much "LOLS HAS GRAVITY GUN", and far far to much antlion love.

Even with subtitles on, it is stupidly easy to miss that.

Instead you need to repeat a single gimmic use of the gravity gun several times with utterly no variance. Might as well just shoot the damn thing with something with a freaking targetting rectical which actually works.

The first half of Portal was a progressively interesting and inventive puzzleorama; the second half was flat-out one of the trippiest, most surreal video-gaming experiences I've ever had.

Weirdness. I spammed Impulse 101 with a rocket launcher and killed every single strider that way on second run through. Haven't tested the chopper yet.

I'd like to mention that even with our new Magnesson Devices, Striders are annoying as hell.

I found running the Hunters down frustrating, because they loved to duck into the trees and rocks where the car couldn't get to them, or jumping out of the way.
Look, I think it's
awesome to have options. I think it's nifty to be
able to use the gravgun to kill dudes rather than only guns and explosions. But I think Valve pushed a little too hard, and I didn't like how forced it felt at times.

I gave up after spamming 5 rockets into a strider and not doing any visible damage.

Dumped 20 rockets into it and it just made the sucker smoke.

It takes between 6-8 rockets per strider. The sad part was, spamming Impulse 101 and rocketing was faster and less frustrating than using the magnesson bombs for me.
