I wish I had recruiters in my country.
That would imply that I have a CHOICE in whether or not to join the army, rather than simply being enlisted at 18.

True, true. People from around Trenton would be choice targets for recruiters. But I'm just a kid from the 'burbs, soft and squishy...
Never mind that I not only know how to use firearms but am a relatively good shot with most long guns, among other things.
Thanks. She's so cute.

That she is.

Katja Sez, from Heavy Gear (spec. Operation Jungle Drums). Here's a bigger version of the avatar.
But I digress.

I wonder, where does one go to take the ASVAB? I'm almost interested in taking it just for laughs.

I'm from Florida and took it. They were probably looking for cannon fodder and came after me because they were surprised to see a Floridian over the 50th percentile on anything, let alone everything. I took it to get out of my English class with the radical femNazi.

I'm in the Air Force, and I still get recruitment mail from the Navy. In five months, when I get my gold bars, I'm gonna walk into the recruiting office in uniform, and tell the seamen/petty officers to leave me the fuck alone.

Yeah, ASVAB. Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It really sucks to score 99th percentile on cryptography.
Holy crap. I just took that test today!
Good thing I didn't know anything about what was being tested in the second half.

Here's a way to deal with annoying Military Recruiters (only works if you're both the same sex)
Ask him to go out on a date with you. Gets 'em every time, plus you get bounced off their hitlist faster than a bullet from a .50 BMG machine gun!

They call you from mid-seventeen to late twentys (at least as far as I can tell, I'm 19 and they still call me occasionally, especially come the end of semesters)

I think they (other than the Marine recruiter) finally gave up on me either:
1) because I met with an Air Force Colonel who's a chaplain about their program, and he was very enthusiastic about me joining (unlikely, doubt that kind of information would disseminate quickly through the military)
2) someone realized I have the exact same name and address as the guy in charge of the X-35's fire control systems, and they don't want a conflict of interest charge (seems somewhat likely...the calls died down about the same time my father met with the brass from AF and Navy on that project)
Either way, I'm glad. They were getting annoying

You should join the navy or the CG. Despite marketing slogans, it's just a job and you'll be glad later.

St John's based out of Halifax, no?
A friend of mine is the (or was) the Chief Engineering Officer for MarLant. Had to organize for repairs for ships out in the Gulf.

Ah, the irony. I call them for my West Point appointment and you're trying too avoid the Army.

I was going to say 'that's weird,' I guess it's really not all that weird; he doesn't live all that far away from me, and I'm not all that far away from you or your friends, it would seem.
Turns out he's not leaving until Sunday night, so I get to see him tomorrow, which I wasn't expecting. Yay!

Yeah they don't have to be there until Monday. My buddy and I just went out and hung for a bit to catch up. The reason I asked was because I was curiosu if he was with 4th LAR or if he was with 4th Combat Engineers in Baltimore because I have friends there as well.
Well tell you friend best of luck and stay safe.

All LAR use LAVs, at least for the Marines because its the only Light Armor we have, exepting the AAAV. The next step after that is straight to the M1A1 Tank Companies.

Shit, I scored a 99 on the ASVAB when I took it back in '99. I tried to get out of it since I had no interest at all in joining the military. I was informed that it was mandatory, to I said 'ahh fuck it' (yes, out loud) and took the damn thing. After that, I got atleast five calls a day from the fucking army recruiter who wouldn't take no for an answer. I found out that the little shithead often visits another high-school in the area so after I graduated, I took the time to pay a visit while he was filling people full of the same bullshit. Lets just say I chew his ass out bigtime, and I also filed a complaint with his CO. I went as far as to show him (his CO) copies of my parent's phone bill showing how many times that fucker called me. Needless to say, he no longer works in the recruiting department. Last I heard, he got pretty much the shittiest assignment possible.
You guys know how much I hate telemarketers, but I hate the recruiters more. The navy recruiters only called me like...twice. Once, I told them to remove me from their calling list. On the second call, I flat out told them I was gay (no, I'm not really...but that does the trick since gays aren't allowed in the US military.). Never got a single call from them since.

Dude was like 'Oh. *click*'
