Slightly off-topic, but is "Paki" actually considered an abusive term regardless of context? I learned it from natives of Pakistan who didn't seem to have a problem with it, but reading this I wonder if I may have missed some straight-faced irony or insult reclamation in there...
It's considered a purely racist term in the UK, mostly because it got used by bigots to describe anyone who looks even slightly indian/pakistani/Sikh regardless of what their ethnicity actually was.
Interesting, thanks.

It's true, even a little bit renders an entire meal inedible for me. I have to avoid several Mexican chains that put it in everything.

One problem with vegetables and kids is that they have been subjected to very poor respresentations of them in many cases. It's surprising how common it is to overcook vegetables. Broccoli should be steamed for about 6 minutes. Carrots and cauliflower, around 10 to 12. I swear that 80% of the time eating at someone else's place and typical restaurants (not the moderate to high-end ones of course), they're cooking them at least 50% longer.

Brocolli is one of my absolute favourite vegetables, but overcook it for 3 minutes and it tastes like shit.
You have to realize that most Christian "moral values" behaviour is not really about "protecting" anyone; it's about their desire to send a continual stream of messages of condemnation towards people whose existence offends them. - Darth Wong alias Mike Wong
