Anything good will always generate feelings of jealousy among those who don't have it. I suppose that means we should hate anything good

Sweetness day... well, it doesn't happen in New Mexico...

[quote"Darth Pounder"]Personally i detest Valentine's Day. It is an evil holiday designed by poeple in relationships to make people not in relationship feel like leapers.[/quote]

Actually, I think its just all the media hype that causes that. The media makes it look like that good gifts = happy love, while bad gifts = no love. On top of that they force this guilt down everyones throat, which only goes to remind single and lonely individuals of that day which, without the media hype, would probably be a lot more tolerable if not just ignored. Its just like Christmas and the increase of robberies. Media guilts people into believing that one must buy gifts for people or else their scrouges or assholes. Media also pushes being with friends and families, which only augments the depression and loneliness of those who don't have such during that holidy. Thats why I like holidays like Halloween or St. Patricks day. Your not guilted by the media (what, are they going to guilt you for not drinking green beer or for not buying candy...) and everyone can participate.

For those of you with short attention spans who are to lazy to read through all of this then: Media = guilty advertising = Sad people at V day and X-mas, thus Media Holidays = Evil by Guilt Tactics; Non-Media Holidays = All around Fun (or not for those inclined).

All that means is some one else is getting suckered along with you. Or as in Kelly's case, is doing the suckering.

I don't really mind it. At least my school doesn't have school functions that make single people feel left out (At my school, there isn't a Valentine's Dance. It's that Christmas Dance that pisses me off).

Why the Christmas Dance?

In Korea, the women buy men gifts on Valentine's Day. Then one month later (called White Day) the men buy women gifts. One month after that, couples go out and eat "chachangmein" (noodles smothered in black sauce).

It's the big, expensive dance for my grade, and everyone else had dates, and went in their formal clothing, and got pictures with their partner, seeing the others who did have one made me left out. Last year, I tried going, and I left after an hour I was so depressed.

Grr... I still remember my first Valentine's Day in high school. I had filled out a sheet for some matchmaking shit that the school actually endorsed. On the 15th, I got my matches, and the names on the list were of girls that I had no interest in. It was a waste of my $1. Today, I'm embittered towards V-Day, and it's worse because I'm fucking single!

Why I might actually enjoy Valentines Day this year.

And yes, until this year I was just another one of the unhappy masses.

As for me, Rebecca and I plan to go out to dinner on Valentine's Day, and as I've done every year for the last 10 years, I will buy her roses. Go ahead, V-day haters, hiss and sneer, but I will not allow your unhappiness to ruin my happiness.

Go ahead. My anti V-day bitterness is completely my own.
