Couple notes the beaches are open and its summer break so I rather expect at least one incident with a drunken member of the international community being dragged off as PNG after getting found with a male hooker and a bag of heroin.
The other thoughts are that Lonestar should actually experience the largest growth and quickest recovery out of any of us. Sure his domestic industries took a hit but also every bit of his economic fundamentals remains strong while the single biggest detriment to investment (Shepi) is no longer on the baord. I would expect that the presence of a continuous low level conflict combined with the long history of warfare between the two nations has kept investment in the Old Dominion severely depressed. With the end of Shep dollars shoudl wind up pouring into the OD.
Lastly MESSamerica as a whole is probably doing pretty well. The IRT is probably hedged out the ass and with their trade with Japanistan likely uninterrupted they shoudl be okay. For the rest of the nations most were on a heightened state of alert but none (near as I can see looking back) ever declared even a state of emergency let alone martial law. Sure there were likely increased travel restrictions and the like but domestic production has always been so far removed physically from conflicts on the Shepland and Old continents that they shoudl continue chugging right along. The Astaria business would affect MESSamerica about as much as genocide in Rawanda affected Canada or better yet no more so than the Egyptian-Israel conflicts have affected Canada. I would guess less than a year for the IRT to be in a positive economic cycle and not much longer than that for the rest (the One Week War is probably a greater effect on TianXia and Wilkonia than this).
-Last note. Stas is right. This conference is about bio weapons
Moreover the world has NO experience with nuclear weapons. For most people nuclear power is simply just another tool so there is no associated horror with them that the real world has. People in-game should not have an inate fear of nukes (aside from our alt-egos) so getting national support behind such a weapons ban is HIGHLY unlikely. The same is not true of biological (and possibly chemical) because they have been used and the results are fresh horrors in the minds of all. Sure we as players in this game may know it is worthwhile to talk about nuke limitaiton but there is no way in hell we would be able to pull it off in character. Keep the discussion to bio-weapons and lets get some answers.

Yeah, besides it's true that bioweapons have essentially crushed world trade and travel.
I think most national leaders who are sane would support signing something like a Chemical Weapon Convention in real life, meaning the possibility of using biological weapons will be reduced to minimum.
With nuclear weapons rising, strategic departments will also look to those as "safer" means to do war

it's funny but the presence of Nukes helps our cause in the face of our own generals. Bioweapons should be used with extreme caution from now on.

Admittedly, Byzantium alone has nearly 200 over strategic bombers.... of which nearly a hundred are Tu-160....
Though we rarely take a slight.. but still.... it's tempting...

You don't have to break Blitzschalg's heart by eliminating them. A reduction and a pinky-swear that you won't use them in war would do fein.
I feel sorry for the guy.

Umm, just so everyone knows, that was a joke. A reference to the Great Convention in Dune.
While it was admittedly in bad taste, I of course wouldn't threaten anyone with nuclear annihilation.

What nuclear annihilation? The FTO just tested their first nuke. You guys are years away from being able to use them.

My point exactly. I can't threaten anyone with
any kind of annihilation.

With all due respect, but you act as if testing our first nuke is something to snuff at. Considering the technical progress the FTO has been making over the course of recent years, I don't think you've got much reason to use smiley-faces. We've got a full-blown space program, we've got a nuclear submarine program, we'll be building nuclear bombs within two years, we're rapidly integrating our entire continent into a military alliance. What have YOU got, apart from a bunch of annexed third-world territories and a single balls-to-the-walls-nuts ally with too many strategic weapons?

You should be grateful I backstabbed Shep before he became too much of a threat. Who knows which continent would've been next for the slaughter.

I certainly don't intend to. It's just that the "lol Frequesue" sentiment gets a bit tiresome. Yeah, we're an alliance of third-tier nations, I get it, we can't hope to individually match a Great Power on a ship-by-ship basis. That however shouldn't translate into an automatic disregard of all our myriad accomplishments. In-context, Frequesue was a shithole continent comparable to Velaria until twenty-odd years ago. Since then we've built a military alliance, stabilized half our continent, and conducted a bunch of other programs that have seen the FTO transform from an African Union-lite into a space-capable, nuclear-armed alliance with a (mostly) level-headed leadership.
Sure, in-universe there may plausibly exist some disregard for the leadership of an isolationist continent half the world away. But frankly, OOC we're nothing to sneeze at. We're not the MESS or the SNC, but hell, we're the next best goddam thing, and coming from a continent that's only marginally better than Africa or South America, that's quite the accomplishment. If this was the CSR or, say, Wilkonia laughing at us then yeah, I could live with that... But the USSR? What have
they accomplished recently?
Stas wrote:You should be grateful I backstabbed Shep before he became too much of a threat. Who knows which continent would've been next for the slaughter.
Yeah, yeah, President Stanislav is a right nutter, I get it, and I'm very much trying not to get on his bad side... And for the record, I
am grateful you backstabbed Shep. The world is a better place without him to worry about.

I'm not snuffing at your nuclear program or the FTO's accomplishments, I merely think it's funny to threaten the great powers with weapons that you don't have. Face it you're the
small fish, just like me and you're going to stay that, just like me. The only difference is that I know my place, and I have a balls-to-the-walls-nuts ally to back me up.

When did this turn into a pissing contest?

I'm happy with what I have.

How dares the insignificant USSR criticize your mighty alliance?
Where exactly did I do this? I simply laughed at the FTO's resident tough guy, threatening people with national obliteration.(And I did it in the fucking OOC thread.)
Nice way to get your panties in a bunch, Siege.

I've got Shroomania

. Does that count?
'Sides, it's not like we don't "know our place"; like Baerne said, his comment was a joke, although one made in bad taste.
Apart from that; yeah, well, we'll see.

His comment was made in bleedin' jest, like Baerne confirmed, and like I inferred right from the start. So, am I just this smart or are you just that silly?

There's something to that, actually...
