Slow? It shouldn't be going slow at all. Well, because you have the window size so huge maybe. It can be fixed by playing with Init.txt if you want.

It doesn't go extremely slow for me, but there is definately more lag than without the new tileset. There's no lag on key presses, though. Just on movement and actions.
It definately makes things easier for new players, though. My friend was watching and he didn't have any trouble identifying what things were, as opposed to the old icons, where BOTH of us had to use the "Look" button to identify pretty much anything that we didn't see over and over again.

That is a beautiful tileset. As much of an elitist as I am... it's time for me to...
... hang up the ascii and activate the tiles.
TIPS FOR SPEED:
1. Init: Go into init.txt and edit the size of the window. Smaller = faster.
2. Play on small maps.
3. Use DF 40d9, the latest Dev_Now version, instead of the version linked on the main page (Experimental)
4. Init: Enable Partial Printing? (Very wonky and experimental- nobody really knows how partial printing really works or what the number used in the setting means)
5. Init: Turn off noncritical features like temperature (Has downsides of not having that feature)
6. Close unnecessary things on your desktop
7. If dual core or above, set the cores manually so that one of them is temporarily dedicated to DF processing (I always forget how)

So recently I decided to get a little experience in Tower construction.. I built a 6x6 base with simply stones, built a ram on the inside, and paved over the upper part with 'floor'. Finished that and went to build the next level of walls and it s says "construction present"
did i miss a step?

You built floors over the walls. Don't do that. Only build floors over empty space.

how the hell are you supposed to make glass if there's no Sand on oyur map? That, and i NEVER see it sold by merchants... my mayor just went into a mood and is demanding Glass, and I want to know if hes screwed.

As far as I know you basically can't. He's a goner. Glass or Gem Fever claims many a dwarf.

Decided to post a pic of my newest Fortress...
To date I have killed
THREE tax collectors, baroness and baron consorts and they still keep coming... Last "immigration" wave was rather insulting as ONLY those three nobles should up... no peasants at all.. Of course given that my Fortress has been labeled a "Death Trap" and was attacked by a skeletal Dragon MAY have something to do with it.
Oh yes.. my mayor
DID go insane and managed to put TWO of my champions in the medical ward before he was put down.
Also posting the "basement" of my Fortress which is mostly spare dorm rooms and Stockpiles:

I know it's a rock cluster/vein, but it looks like a noble had a very serious accident once or twice there

Serious accident or 14, looks like. When I get much better at DF, I'll definately come up with some nice ways for executions. I saw someone suggest a waterslide into a gladiatorial pit.

I want someone to do what they talked about when rewalling first came in. Build a room entirely out of glass walls, and have it floodable.
Noble Aquariums.

Currently there or only Three nobles I allow to live... The Mayor, because hes important to the Fortress, and the Hammerer and the Dungeon Master, mostly because those are the only nobles who actually DO SOMETHING around the fortress... You'll also notice from the top, each of their rooms gets smaller as I learned a valuable lesson... The 'niceness' of a room isn't determined by size, but by how nice of crap you put in it.
That said I dont actually have a mayor right now since the previous one went insane and what not.... Which brings up a valid point... How the hell is there NOT sand on every single map? Shouldn't something as mundane as "Sand" be everywhere? specially when most dirt is called "Sandy loom" I mean really, how am i NOT getting sand from dirt described as Sandy?
Moving on... In other news I am moving forward with my MegaProgect:
BEHOLD!!

They obviously need a crackpipe. Glass and burning! Or perhaps bongs.

Is there a mac comatable version of the 3D Dwarf program? Google search pulls up only window versions.

No clue, although the n# alpha-alpha versions probably aren't even supported by a version of 3Dwarf/Lifevis.

is there a way to e-mail the saved-game data to someone who DOES have it and then have them render it?

Crossroads Inc. wrote:is there a way to e-mail the saved-game data to someone who DOES have it and then have them render it?
Possibly- you'd need to have them get a copy of DF wherein it does work, copy your save world folder (in the /data/save folder, whichever world it is (it'll be world 1 if you've generated only one world), zip it, and send it to them, they'd extract it into their own game (or better yet, a fresh install for safety) and do the lifevis/3dwarf magic on it.
I guess. I'm no expert. With n9, n8, etc. all sharing compatability in saves, I
think it should work.
