Going by videos, I think it's under "Custom Game", because a big button on the main menu that says SKIRMISH was just too hard to implement.

Host a custom game, close whatever slots you want, and fill the others with AIs. Easy as that.

Btw, my Windows Live thingamajig is BroCptGaius

Hey BCG, does that mean that DoW2 is a Windows/Xbox Live game? So I can play it on PC with my Live profile, like in Fallout3? That'd be pretty jawesome.

Yeah, it requires a Windows Live ID for multiplayer. Which means the beta requires a Windows Live ID, since it's multiplayer only. ;)

I went with ChaplainQuintus, since all my regular handles were taken. Too bad they used apothecaries for heroes instead of chaplains.

Well, I have twelve miles of ice-covered road between me and work, and the boss isn't paying me enough to risk totaling my car, so I have today free. Anybody up for a game?

Can't play anymore, must sleep, but I sent you a friends request, might as well approve that at least.

I have a couple hours. I'll be up for a game in about 15 minutes.

Well, that was fun right up until the late-game lag. Note to self: Buy a new graphics card with the tax refund.

Yeah, it froze up there at the end. I had to hard restart my system, not sure what the problem was.

Well Stark, with the power of GOOD OLD AUSSIE INTERNET I expect to have the beta downloaded by maybe 7 pm, and I shall give my opinions forthwith.

Felt a little lacking in oomph until I played it for a few hours, now I think it's great. It could use some fixing here and there but otherwise I love the welcome break from base management, and the action, and how important yet not too important your commander is. They struck a fine balance with that aspect I think.

So far I'm liking the nids, with ravener alpha as my commander. I played in a team game and sucked cause it was my first time, but thanks to my ravener tunneling back and forth from victory point to victory point, our team won and I got champion status. My units ended up being everyone else's meatshield, however and I ended up with way more losses than anyone.

Underwhelmed. It feels like a decent game, but not a terribly 40k game. Also, the ability of any armored unit to simply walk through and devastate any structure without even slowing or taking a dent got very old very fast.

And, er, someone tell me how you do a 'Dark Age of Technology' upgrade on a dreadnought that didn't...start life...in the Dark Age of Technology. Isn't the entire point of Dark Age tech that no one knows how to make it anymore? And it's not a weapon pod or something, it's tougher armor and self-repair systems. And as an aside: What, the Imperium forgot how to use lascannons between DoW and now?

Gotta love the level 3 SM options, too, because nothing says 'tank rush' like a faction that only has one unit at the highest level of upgrade.

I agree with the general sentiment, White Haven, and while the DAoT upgrade is generally stupid on account of a retarded name (for an upgrade) and it being pretty nonsensical, it is at least rationalizable: Dreadnoughts themselves are often far older than their current occupants; usually it is what's left of the Marine inside who dies (more) before the majority of the chassis gives out. The wreck is then salvaged and awaits a new occupant, so in this way the Dreadnought's mechanical components could conceivably be quite old.

That said, it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Even venerable Dreadnoughts merely date back to the Heresy or thereabouts.

And Space Marines get a helluva lot more than just Predators at tier 3 - I don't even build them. I'd much rather save the requisition for a squad of Terminators, who have finally rid themselves of their DoW1 incarnation and are now proper Ultimate Badasses. They're a goddamn army of one (well, three). They can two-three shot most vehicles in melee, rape commanders, and bust out some very respectable ranged firepower to boot, all on top of being immune to pinning. Fuck Predators, SM tier 3 is all about Terminators.

Any of the t3 tanks are meant to stay back in range, and then they'll do plenty of damage. When anything that can hurt them gets close, start reversing them.

Finally managed to pull down this fucker.

Who's up for a game?

EDIT:

Okay what the bah

"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_39.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Would it be legal for someone to send me this dll so I can get the fucking fucker working?

Nope it's working now for some reason.

It took three more tries and I'll be damned if I know what it was.

So I just tried the game to see how it would work.

Well, I'm a little sad after all that fighting in the last Dawn of War. No more big armies duking it out anymore. That makes the idea of having the Imperial Guard as a faction kind of meaningless. Little wonder they aren't in the initial game.

I'm being moderately entertained. Still stuff to explore, I guess.

I like the Lictor general. He's a general, damn it. It seems that once you upgrade your lictor, you can't use flesh hooks anymore (ever), and depending on the upgrade won't attack. A little buggy in that respect.

Woooo, that was intense!

Force Commander with Terminator armor rocks. Assault Termies rock. Having both of those sitting on top of an Ork base killing everything that comes out with a Predator in the background providing heavy fire support = ownage.

Sure, the Orks managed to kill the tank and the Termies in the end, but I won... with my Force Commander left with 74 HP. If he'd bought it, I'd have had to fall back and start over; that was really damn close.

Oh dear, so it's still a hp grindfest? Shame. Then again remember the DoW beta? Force commander destroys entire base and takes 10% damage while under constant fir from six squads. :)
