How much to purchase a communications stratellite and who would Miratia buy them from?
Get your fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid ideas

Let me know the delivery schedule you are looking for. There are a couple options, everything from taking delivery of existing Wilkonian Maritime Security Service vessels (which would drop the price obviously for taking used goods) when they go in for their next major refit cycle or we can start them as new hulls. The shipyards which handle WMSS vessels aren't nearly as busy as the main Naval shipyards churning out the STAR project but a new hull obviously takes a bit of time. I would estimate first delivery in the former case within 6 months and final delivery at roughly the 3 year mark, in the later case first delivery would be 2.5 year mark and final delivery at roughly the 5 year mark.SiegeTank wrote:Okay, so here's the shopping list for the budding North Frequesuan Coast Guard:

They cost a few dozen million and you'd buy them from Shroomania.Ryan Thunder wrote:How much to purchase a communications stratellite and who would Miratia buy them from?
Hmm, we'll take new ships. More expensive to be sure, but the longer hull life will compensate for it. Plus it'll take at least a year or two to set up the organization and train the requisite crew, so if you can deliver the first ships in two and a half that'd be excellent.CmdrWilkens wrote:Let me know the delivery schedule you are looking for. I don't know, maybe. Fingolfin is more knowledgeable with these things, perhaps he knows? It would be awesome, if it was possible.PeZook wrote:Though, perhaps, they could house lasers and S-500 SAMs?
You better hurry back, I'm rather enjoying that story.I will continue the new slavery storyline after I return
Righteo. I'll consider the order as having been placed tail end of Q4 2013 so first delivery will be end of Q1 2016 (roughly week of April 20th-24th). This will be delivery in operational condition complete with sea trials and fit out.SiegeTank wrote:Hmm, we'll take new ships. Man.. I hardly know if these things can carry a nuclear reactor, because if you are going to start running these things like a christmas tree, you are going to draw a lot of power.DarthShady wrote:I don't know, maybe. Heh... I have no idea if Coyote's own super blimps will work as claimed. For it to work, you have to it very large compared to the weight it has to carry....Shroom Man 777 wrote:Lasers, nuke reactors and shit are heavy. Strats can't carry em unless they're like totally HUEG and impossibly big and shit.
They COULD carry mirrors to reflect lasers!
Yeah I read of that. Which implies that the nuke powered stratellites with huge AESA radars should be fine as hell.Shroom Man 777 wrote:If Coyote's can carry tanks, then I guess we can also have blimps that can carry tanks. Except if we ditch those treads and chassises, and wield the tank turrets on the hull...
We will have SKY-GALLEONS!
Can't be much worse than my Super-heavy Air Defender idea...PeZook wrote:Though, perhaps, they could house lasers and S-500 SAMs?
Stratellites with AESA Radar and S-500's, this seems like a workable project. Should we go for it? Or perhaps we could simply put radar on the stratellites, if the other stuff is to heavy.Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:Yeah I read of that. So in that case, we can load up defensive weapons on it without any problems.
The same could be said of any radar satellite or just about any AEW&C aircraft.Ryan Thunder wrote:Actually, hang on. Wouldn't a blimp have an epic heug radar signiature that would make it utterly trivial to locate and either avoid or missile it before it could do anything in return?
Well, yes, but that's the problem. If its going to be your AAA, wouldn't you rather it be difficult to locate?Fingolfin_Noldor wrote:The same could be said of any radar satellite or just about any AEW&C aircraft.Ryan Thunder wrote:Actually, hang on. The S-500 is mostly for self-defence really, though it can be used for other things.Ryan Thunder wrote:Well, yes, but that's the problem. If its going to be your AAA, wouldn't you rather it be difficult to locate?
