I can't believe that Dalton is the only one who mentioned the greatest rock percussionist that has even lived! LONG LIVE JOHN BONHAM! one need only listen to Bonzo's Montreaux ONCE to reach that conclusion. pure fucking genius. that man could do twice as much with one foot on the bass drum than anyone else could do with two. he was like a machine with his precision, but played with such emotion. most of the others mentioned are pretty much flash in the pan types. A few other of my favorites: David Garabaldi, Carter Beauford, Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria...and some others i cant think of off the top of my head.

Aphexmonster posted a good one: Travis from Blink 182. Say what you want about the band, I went to one of their concerts, and Travis played a 5- or 10-minute drum solo while the other two goons were backstage flogging the dolphin. It was fucking incredible.

Travis is badass. Didn't he learn all the blink songs in like one night or something because he was replacing the current drummer at the time.
Abe cunningham from the deftones is also pretty good

I always thought bonzo was sloppy as fuck. Sure he was good for his time, but after studying drummers for a while, i found i didn't like him as much as other drummers.

Abe from the deftones is the fucking shit, but hes like Bonzo or morgan rose ... hes not HELLA good, but his style is unique ... irriplacable.

I also forgot to mention Spag from [Mu][dv][ay][ne] ... that guy is awesome, hes got the quickest hands i've seen since watching travis. The fact that MV hardly plays in standard time ( i.e. instead of playing in 4/4 or 3/4, they play in 7/11, 29/44, 14/7, 11/7 ) and he still whips out insane fills at the drop of a hat.

As for travis... the fucking heel-toe shit he does is hella nice, hes one of the fastest punk drummers ive ever seen, and that says alot. Hes a single kick using drummer that sounds like a drummer with a double kick. Hes also got tripplet skills up the ass that hella sound sweet when hes improvising.

Although my favorite drummer right now would have to be Joey from Slipknot ... hes the only drummer i've seen do a drum roll with his feet.... most people do it on the snare drum, but he chops it up on the bass drum... its so sic ...

If you REALLY want to see sloppy, just listen to Keith Moon. Bonzo had a solid groove, though.
