I think people ithout custom title's have more weight to their opinion personally, after all, they are the ones who will be afffected. I am completely against any change that will jump the post count requirement up so high that it is nearly impossible to obtain a good title.

BTW, newbies are now ranked as Red Shirts.

I am for Phong's suggestion.
Plus I'd rather have an Imperial rank than Jedi ranks anyhow. That however is probably no suprise.

IMHO, I think that a rank system based on time and post count (with an Imperial Navy theme) would be the best... Though I think it should be a bit easier to attain some of the higher ranks than what Phong has set out, just to lessen occurance of spamming.

How about not basing rank on posts? It would be an unusual step, since
every sci-fi forum, it seems, uses posts to decide ones rank. Perhaps we could differentiate ourselfs from the masses by doing something innovative.

I like the Imperial rank idea, as this
is a site named for the mighty Imperator-class Star Destroyr. Use the model put forth by HDS in July of 01.

76- 100 Acting Sub-Lieutenant

6001- 7000 Vice Admiral
7001- 8000 Admiral
8001- 9000 Fleet Admiral
9001-10000 High Admiral
10000+ Grand Admiral
Governor [Mini-Moderator]

Grand Moff [Super Moderator]
Sith Apprentice [Darth Wong]
Emperor [Administrator]
Imperial Subjects [Registered Users]
CGT Contacts or Cloaked Ships [Hidden Users]
Rebel Scum [Lurkers]
While Midshipmen and Ensigns traditionally have the same rank insigna (though in the Imperial Navy an Ensign has an additional code cylinder, IIRC) they are independant ranks IIRC and this update reflects it.
This system would separate custom titles (given by Mike only) from the rank.
I thought CGT Contacts would be more appropriate than Cloaked; Rebel Scum are for those who deign not to join us civilized folk

I like it. That system has my vote.

Grand Admiral is a higher rank then Grand Moff. But the system seems fine.

Grand Moffs had political powers whereas Grand Admirals appeared to have military-only powers (abliet higher).
Mike could keep the postcount requirement at around 2000-3000 for a custom title, keeping it separate from the ranks.

I suppose so. It wont even be much of an issue anyway, most if not all moderators have custom titles already as does everyone at 10,000

Personally I'm in favour of leavig the rankings as they are or removing them all together except for the newbie titles. I've noted that far too many people care way too much about post counts and rankings, and that the ranking system encourages senseless posting in order to "seniority" and "respect" in the eyes of the misguided posters. I'd prefer a system that goes "newbie", "regular member", "custom title", and custom titles are only handed out to special people for worthwhile contributions to the board and not post counts.

A ranking system biassed towards membership time fixes this problem.

Ehh, but that puts people who come and go above some of those that are newer but really do contribute.

Incorrect. People who are only here from time to time will not have very high post counts at all and their rank will reflect that.

A combo "time registered/post count" ranking system (using Imperial ranks) does interest me, but how could it be accomplished?
And here I show just how little I know.

Which of course means I'll never be above the rank of "Cannon Fodder". Ah well.

Very easily. Post counts have automatic values. Assign a multiplier to be used that will be put against the membership time. Combine the two numbers and you get your total rank.
Example:
Time registered: 100 days
Total Posts: 3400
Time multiplier: 36
36x100=3600
3600+3400=7000
7000 is the rank.

Why are you all so eager to screw with the rank system? Just leave it as is so the rest of us have a chance.

hmm.... I like this.. this could work very well indeed when tweaked properly.

Oh pipe down. If they do readjust it, I'll have a lower rank than you - and I'm still fine with it.

I think a readjustment is in order, and the Combo Time/Post system sounds rather good.
If they continue with the current system I would rather have Imperial ranks than Jedi ranks, which rather makes sence anyhow - this being Stardestoyer.net and all.

I've got no problems with changing the rank names. But why not leave the same number of ranks and requirements alone? Not everybody can go and post in every single forum there is over and over (like me and PST and FF, I have nothing to contribute there, so why bother?). Those of us making an honest living would like to see JCM or a Custom Title before we die, thank you.

Honestly, in my opinion, that's just jacking up the rank system to accomodate the high-postcount members, giving them even higher ranks available for reaching.
Either Alyeska's system, or just leaving the system as is (changing the rank names is okay).
