I always thought that the Sydney Funnel Web was the most hideous spider in the world, but it's been dethroned.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Australian Mouse Spider!

I can say from personal fucking experience that those statistics are if not inaccurate, that they are the median. Average height for an adult human is roughly 5'9" at the moment. But I'm 6'6" and we have many people my height and above.
The biggest cave spider I've encountered was one with legs each measuring roughly 25-30 centimetres (varied from leg to leg) and with a 2 inch long body. Location - Mole Creek Caves system, in "Hexagon" (I think that was the name of that particular piece of hole in the ground). That thing scared the living fucking shit out of me.
You quote a website, and I point out that it in fact supports
my position. Then you say, "oh, well the source I used was wrong, I'm actually right!"
Am I supposed to be impressed or convinced? I'm neither.

Did I say that the source I used was wrong? No. I simply pointed out that I had seen one that was bigger than what was listed as the "adult" size. Not by much, but goddamn, by enough.

That is a big spider though. BTW now you know what scared Little Miss Muffet! In Austrailia they have spiders that are very deadly that get that size.
You're thinking of the Sidney Funnel Web, correct?

He's a liar. They don't have two-foot spiders there, either.
The Largest spider in the world is in South America I believe... it's a Tarantula that can get a foot across, and has 1 inch long fangs. If I remember correctly the natives actually eat them... *gags violently*

What is it with Australia and spiders?
Damn things would almost eat people. Just hate to see some mad scientist mutate some for his private army...

It might have to do with Austrailia and Poisonous snakes. If we figure out why so many poisonous things ended up in Austrailia you could win a Nobel Prize
BTW Steve Erwin has no problem handling a Fierce Snake but a Bird Eating Spider--he sweats bullets

I wouldn't put it past some of those people who live in the jungle down there!

They only eat the legs. They eat tarantula in the backwoods of Thailand, also, as I learned recently from some TV show.
The Indians in Amazonia call them "crabs", BTW.

That's because it's easier to keep a snake from biting you without incapacitating it in some way than for a spider. After all, there is no convenient neck for you to hold on a spider.

It would take some serious persuasion before I believed
that. There is a "Brazilian Wandering Spider" that has venom dangerous, and sometimes fatal, to humans.
Apparently, the Sydney Funnel Web spider can bite through boot leather, or your toenail, however the case may be....

The Sidney Funnel Web also has the habit to use conveinent little caves as hangouts AKA shoes and this is how most people would get bitten by them

This is correct I believe. The Sydney Funnel Web is also more closely related to tarantuals than true spiders being that their fangs face downward (like viper snake fangs) and do not face inward like the fangs of true spiders.
