The sequel was even better. Starflight II: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula. you were basiclly an inter stellar trader, but you had to solve thr problem of an uppity race of blobs called the spemin who, while once the whipping boys of the galaxy had suddenly become the most powerful race in the galaxy.
Hm, funny, when I maxed up on "stock" components (lvl 5 stuff) I was able to kick their asses and they went back to whimpering/groveling mode and offering me stuff (not to mention all the free fuel from their steaming wrecks).

Sriad wrote:When did Lucas Arts first start making their point & click RPGs (ie Monkey Island, etc)? Those definately deserve a spot if they're old enough.
"Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders" was THE lucas masterpiece, closely followed by Monkey Island 2.

Darth Yoshi wrote:Archon. Like chess, but instead of the attacking piece always winning, you'd have to duke it out on a battlefield, and damage carried over between battles. The cheapest unit was definitely the light army's phoenix.
Archon II: Adept!

I've played Adept. It wasn't as good as Archon, in my opinion. I actually have a version of Archon on my PC. I suck at it. Badly.

*digs into bad memory*

Star <something> (Two players dogfight in space with lasers and missiles. Leave the game and it will give you a "May the Farce be with you." No, I didn't spell that word wrong.)

Zaxxon (Still don't understand those oil spills.)

Stargate (Damn those pods.)

Flight Simulation (the original one) + Europe 1917 ( :?: The sim turns into a fighter for dogfight.)

Dig Dug....the music and sounds together were great.

King's Quest, Space Quest (I only had these, the sequels were out when I was in high school and games = lethal poison.)

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Day of the Tentacle (+Maniac Mansion)...cranked a shit load of brain juice on it.

Monkey Island III (The only one I have...)

Karateko (Usually watched my cousin play it to the end. Once I had a chance to play, after killing a few I lost patience...forgive me I was 9 at that time.)

Prince of Persia (Well this time I fought to the end...:P)

Lost File of Sherlock Holmes (Got stuck on one part for...two weeks  )

Skyfox (Mainly watched my cousin play.)

GI Joe (Flip the disk please.)

Star Trek: Judgement Rites (Part of the reason I like TOS more than TNG.)

Adventure Construction Set (Had fun designing Star Wars stuff.)

Edit: I seem too easy to satisfy? :D

I fondly recall the days of the Side Scrolling Duke Nukem!! In fact, when I first read of Duke Nukem 3D in the newspaper, the first thought which darted through the corridors of my mind was:

"Duke Nukem... in 3D??"

I still have Duke Nukem 1,2,and 3. 2 was all super-fancy graphics, I dunno why the went back to the old kind for 3.

One of my favorites on the C64.

Still the greatest. I should really get D1x installed and play through the game again.

Some friends and I just went went through an X-Com kick (well, they played TFTD, which crashed every time I went to combat, so I played UFO). Really makes me wish I was a programmer, so I could help the Xenocide people make their updated X-Com clone. X-Com's engine hasn't aged well.

I remember a 3D Robocop game that had driving and FPS action in it. I'd always die when it came to FPS because I didn't know what was going on. :D

System Shock.

Quite simply the best game ever made on the PC.

Ever.

Ever.

Hmm, pre-Win95 games... quite a few (though not as much as some). This is just a partial list, and is in no particular order.

1. Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant (even now that Wizardry 8's out, 7 still holds a certain charm that no other game could ever match)

2. Tie Fighter

3. Wolf3d, Corridor 7, Doom, Quake, Chasm, etc.

4. Sam and Max Hit the Road ("Sam, how could you? Gratuitous violence is my forte")

5. Descent

6. Leisure Suit Larry 3

7. Syndicate (why the hell hasn't anyone mentioned this yet?)

8. Ultima VII and Serpent Isle ("Go in. Tell them you are the Avatar")

9. Hero Quest and its remake Quest for Glory

10. Robot Wars (OK so this one was really before my time but it was all that my friend had on his 286 w/ orange and black monitor :D)

11. Mechwarrior 2 (again, why the hell hasn't anyone mentioned this yet?)

12. X-Com (Still play it to this day)

13. Crusader: No Remorse (Oh... my... god!! See developers? THIS is how you make an action game)

14. Wing Commander 1, 2, and 3 (4 wasn't great)

15. Wing Commander: Privateer (Freelancer wishes it was this game)

16. Under a Killing Moon

There's a lot more, I just can't think of them right now.
