Lucas did change one part of the SE Endor; after Lando we see the inital swarm of TIES in the Falcon's cockpit viwer and the next shot shows the Falcon coming at us, it fires its quad guns at the fighters. In the original 1983 film, this didn't happen.

Thats pretty trivial compared to how much the battle of Yavin changed. Of course, Yavin
needed some work and was one of the things I was happy to see improved.

I remember, when I saw the Yavin battle in the SE, I thought "gee, I really don't see the improvement, only a few badly rendered ships... i kinda remember the battles were pretty much the same". A few days later some TV channel decided to show the old version. Crap, that was one ass-ugly space battle. I could almost see the strings and stuff.

The Battle of Yavin still makes me sweat. No other space battle has made me sweat, other than some B5 battles.

Yes, well I've learned my lesson teacher; may I go outside and play with the rest of the children?
Pardon my penchant for acting like a smartass, but the moment seemed right. Thank you ladies and gentlemen, it's been a wonderful evening, and we'll see you next week - be sure to tip your server!

Battle of Endor, definitely. Even with Imperial stupidity, that space battle just kicks too much ass!

I don't know, I'll probably be in the minority but I liked the remake in the SE for the Battle of Yavin better than the original. Improved SFX and basicly the same shots of the characters.

I honestly don't see how anyone could like the original battle of Yavin over the SE version. Sure the original version is nostalgic, but graphics wise, the SE version 0wnz it. In fact, I wouldn't mind the SE at all except for that fucking Greedo shooting first thing.

Until the SE I always had no idea what exactly happened when you see that X-Wing coming right at the camera firing, then you just see an explosion- I used to think it had cut the TIE in half with it's wings or something. Then the SE came in and made it obvious.

The Battle of Yavin was the best battle, i mean come on you have about 2 dozen rebel snub fighters going up against the cocky Empire and its first Death Star which is set to wipe out the Rebel Alliance and its base. It pits a farm boy coming of age and saving thousands of lives that are fighting a cause to save the galaxy from tyranny. Then we have the cowboy-esc flight jockey who comes in to help his new friend and future love back on Yavin

The best battle by far...No matter what anyone says is the attack on the Deathstar in Star Wars...sheer class...remember...
STAY ON TARGET...

It's a classic - I'll give you that.

That's not the only thing he changed. He also added extra MonCal cruisers in the background of many shots. They weren't in the original release.
Of course, they're so small that you can only notice them if you're looking for them, but still. A minor change, but a change nevertheless.

I voted for Endor as it is the final chapter of the story, and because it had some cool things in it, like Ackbar (I just like the guy), and the Luke/Darth duel.
Hoth and Yavin I also enjoyed. Hoth is just moving for me, and at the end of Yavin you want to cheer when the Death Star blew up.
Geonosis was cool but could've used some ruthless editing - there were some extraneous scenes where Yoda says something to the effect of "Carry on commander." or "Hmm ... very good ... very good." Like it was really worth the 15secs to say those lines when we could've seen droids and clones slaughter each other.
Naboo was so stupid. I kept wanting the Gungans to die, and kept wondering why they didn't. Then I saw them retreat, and I thought "Yay! Finally, something that makes sense." Then I saw Jarjar blow up a tank with a hand grenade, while hanging off the turret gun.

Oh, and the Boy Wonder flying a starfighter, not only surviving the flak but managing to destroy the goddamn commandship.

Each battle has strengths and weaknesses. Here's the play-by-play in my eyes, in chronological order
Naboo Pros: Gungans actually cool, lighthearted, kickass sabre duel
Cons: Lack of variety in combatants, Jar-Jar, space battle and palace attack rather dull
Geonosis Pros:Fast and furious, very spectacular, very cool
Cons: Short, one-sided
Yavin Pros: Very dramatic, involving, tense, cool starfighters
Cons: Tarkin very stupid, rather small in comparison with the others, confusing in original form
Hoth Pros: AT-ATs rock, nice setting, inventive tactics, Imperial might unleashed, medium sized
Cons: Only five Imperial combatants, one-sided, medium sized
Endor Pros: BIG, cool space battle, cool lightsabre duel, climatic, neat new Rebel ships
Cons: Ewoks, starfighter-centric, only one new Imperial design(TIE interceptors), Stormtroops go down like punks, rather stupid Imperial officers

I love Hoth. It doesn't have any of the cliches the others do. Also, I love the shot of the AT-AT doing a semi-squat and shrugs off the the speeder, which goes spiraling into the ground. The walker seemed almost organic the way it moved. It gives me goosebumps everytime.
I like Yavin. It just felt right.
Geonosis was awesome. It felt almost as close to real combat as Hoth did.
I thought Endore was cool. I have never understood why people get down on the Ewoks. The space battle is obvioulsy the best of the three, but it fell into cliche.

Yeah, but you've got to admit the sight of the Imperial flagship going down after one hit was like:

Except for the fact that it had that cheap model pyrotechnic that made it obvious that we were seeing miniature work. Damn these modern day sophisticated explosions!!

What's wrong with minature work? I like it. True, you can accomplish a wonder with CG effects and models, but they lack an asthetic quality to them.

For me, Geonosis. The sight of the two armies exchanging fire was just awe-inspiring. It was also nice to see all the elements of the respective armies working. Still, the whole thing could have done with being longer, and I wish Lucas had cut that excruciating scene with Obi-Wan and Anakin arguing in the gunship...

I'm sure all of us have something we wish Lucas had cut out of Episodes I & II (& III when it comes out).
