Well, that has already happened a couple of times and your prognosis did not come true. The Middle East has stabilized a great deal the last few years-- many Arab governments have signed peace treaties with Israel. Otheres have focused their attention elsewhere.McNum wrote:I'd actually be inclined to agree with the result of that poll.
Israel (the area) is the biggest threat to world peace at the moment.
... That area is a hotspot waiting to ignite into an inferno.
Should Israel make a move against the Arab world other than what they usually do or if the Arabs decide that Israel should be removed it'll spark a war. A big one. And, of course, USA will have to help its ally in need...
I'd also remind people who see Israel as a threat to peace that the vast majority of the regional conflicts over there were actually instigated by Arab states and organizations. Israel is not blameless, but it is hardly the sole responsible power there.
BTW, while everyone complains about Israel being in the West Bank, how come no one gives a rat's ass that Syria still illegally occupies Lebanon and funds an active, known terror organization that is as much devoted to keeping Lebanon destabilized as it is to attacking Israel? If there was one country in the Middle East that actually used to be a garden spot, it was Lebanon-- and to this day, it is another Arab state that keeps it shackled.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

People expect more from Israel because Israel professes to be a fair western democracy whereas stating that the various Arab countries are messed up is a tad redundant.BTW, while everyone complains about Israel being in the West Bank, how come no one gives a rat's ass that Syria still illegally occupies Lebanon and funds an active, known terror organization that is as much devoted to keeping Lebanon destabilized as it is to attacking Israel? Because no one defends Syria. Besides, Isreal is supposed to be a western democracy and happens to recieve billion of dollars in aid.

True, Syria has never tried to paint itself in the colors of righteousness. But Lebanon was, once, a functioning democracy, with a Parliament that saw to the balance of affairs between Christian, Shia'a, Druze and Sunni. It was 'the Paris of the Middle East' and a vacation spot for well-to-do Europeans.
The entry of the PLO into the country destabilized this, radicalized local politics, and pushed Christian, Druze, and Shia'a into marginalization. I admit that Israel did not help things by pushing leadership onto Bashir Gemayel but things had already destabilized so badly that when the IDF crossed the border into Lebanon the Shia' actually welcomed them as liberators at first (a situation the Israelis did not use to their advantage and pissed it away)...
But now Syria maintains about 4 divisions in the tiny country, even though the locals want them out, and they say it is to 'defend' their smaller neighbors while actually using Beirut as a puppet to skirt international scrutiny for imports and exports...

I think this can be explained that newspapers usually spend more space on articles about Israel than articles about Syria.Coyote wrote:True, Syria has never tried to paint itself in the colors of righteousness. Oh yes, of course, the Arabs in such villages as Majdal Shams and Masad'e are second class citizens. Israel craps on them, steals their lives and their freedom.Tribun wrote:Many won't want to see that Israel is a state, were all "non-jews" were seen as people 2nd or 3rd class. Of course this excepts any with white skin color or Americans, only Arbs they think of as the "Untermenschen".
I see alarming paralels........
You really need to see Israel instead of just viewing the highly polarized media images...

Wrong. If they have all the priveleges and rights of a regular citizen, what makes them second class citizens? The Dominican Republic, by its Constitution, is a Catholic Country, yet Jews aren't second class citizens.Durandal wrote:Israel's being a "Jewish State" relegates all non-Jews to second-class citizen status by definition.
