There are damn few good novels in that genre, at least that don't piss on the history.
The Aubery Martin novels are good but very in depth in terms of techincal details. I'd also recommend any of Patrick O'Brian's other historical novels though they are equally technical.
I would also recommend an old book on the USS
Consitution called
The Fighting Constitution. I have no idea if it's still in print (it's 1950s vintage) as I bought my copy at a library sale. But really any good account of the
Consitution's history is bound to be a good read.
Any good biography of Admiral Nelson (the man was as heroic and colorful as any fictional character).
Really there are few that come close to the level of Forestor or O'Brian. I would recommend you start with Hornblower as they're not as technical and you'll pick up some of the details as you go.

At the end of the movie when they're on an intercept course for the Acheron (again), what is the name of the piece they're heartily playing? And is that a special rendition done for the movie?

hmm, I'll have to see that movie. I also heard that it was very accurate in how the battles took place, the design of the ships, down to the buttons on the uniforms.

Have seen it twice already. Unlike most if the movies that I have seen in about a year I really would like to see it a third time.
Something about it just made it even better the second time I saw it.

Yeah, and in fact I watched Wrath of Khan the night before I saw M&C. I felt, though, that there was much more impressive acting and character development in M&C.
