Kernel's got the right idea, folks. I feel bad that hard feelings were generated over a prank. That was not the intent; it was supposed to be funny, and if it wasn't, then we (ie- the staff) screwed up. But it won't help matters for people to flame each other over this.

True, except that you didn't know whether it really was arbitrary or not. We said it took us a long time to do, so that should have given you the impression that it wasn't a spur of the moment sort of thing.

Oh, and I don't suppose this is really known, especially among the newer members, but I have always been opposed to increasing the power of the mods. I wouldn't have supported it if it was for real.

Well, Mike, there are just some things you just don't do for a prank, IMHO.

This joke was amusing to a small circle of mods and no one else (except Spanky, apparently), but the other AFD jokes were more inclusive and everyone could have fun participating in them. I think that's why there's anger about this one.

Difficult to tell the difference from where I sit. This was the act of sadists. A lot of things that happen around here are the acts of sadists. Then again, what else should I expect from the Horsemen?

Okay, we've taken a prank and turned it into seething hatred and hard feelings. Bla bla bla, Rogue 9 hates me, Shep's never speaking to Red again, and overall people are taking this too seriously. I'm locking this before it goes any further. We all know how everyone feels about this, so let's just move along.

Well, Mike, there are just some things you just don't do for a prank, IMHO.

It wasn't my sort of prank and it wasn't my idea, but I failed to see in advance that it would generate hard feelings so in a way, I'm responsible too.
