The hyperdrive's ability is to shift the phase angle on the fixed quantity of complex mass-energy without changing its magnitude. Therefore, it can arbitrarily change the amount of complex mass an SW ship has from positive to negative. This is how a hyperjump occurs.
Similarly, the circulating mass can be shifted to the positive before being annhiliated. The SW ship cheats by not carrying its annhiliation fuel as purely positive mass-energy it must haul around. It can carry it around as negative mass and then shift it to positive to get the full bang for one's buck without having to pay the piper for carrying all that shit around.

Oops, I meant shift the mass between real and imaginary.
Obviously, phase angles do not refer to anything but a plane, which has an imaginary mass line and a real mass line.
Nitram just doesn't know what he's talking about. Mike wrote a significant essay, which has been posted several times, which frames the whole point of SW hyperdrive as being no less ridiculous than the negative mass requirement of warp drive. Obviously if hyperdrive postulated negative mass, it would be a moot point to make that argument. Similarly, Saxton discusses the mass-energy of tachyonic matter.
Tachyons always have imaginary mass.
Tardyons always have real mass.
Luxons do not have mass.

it's not considered thread necromancy if you're actually contributing something worthwhile. which. . .your post doesn't.Trekdestroyer wrote:Alright! which one of you brought this thread back from the dead? It's called THREAD NECROMANCY yo!*
*I had to learn this the hard way so don't remind me of that!
