:::::Readys Claws:::::
First of all, WAY outside the established tech level.
Second of all, those better be some damnd flimsy air units, or we won't be able to scratch 'em

Incredibly flimsy, and I expect most magic-wielders will be able to knock them from the sky. They're freakin' hot-air airships, not ornithopters. If magic isn't that potent, then I'll declare them unarmed forevermore as we can't develop effective ground-assault weapons.
Again, I'm going for roughly analogous in overall capability. You have crystal balls, we have telegraph. You have lightning blasts, we have rockets. But if the majority dislike, I'll not do it.

Or if we do, we use some sort of creatures, like in Warcraft 3

You could have a nation similar to the Alliance of Lordaron in WC3,
More tech than everyone else, but everyone else has magical counters that make them equivalent.
(Creatures for air attacks, spellcasters, E.T.C.)

Either way you guys end up having it, let me know. I can use Fractal Mapper to make a halfway decent landmass for you all to play in.

Just mount a hippogryph and shoot them up with arrows. Or shoot them up with ballistae fromt he ground. Use a wind spell to blow them off the battlefield. Use your imaginations, people.
I can't see the airships you can build even with a fudged tech level having the capability to break things too badly anyway.

Yeah, they would be annoying, but not to bad... it is the ground troops I am most worried about though...Each one of those is obscenly overpowered and in order to be that muc more effective, there is no way they would be even close to being in the tech limit.

Reread the bit in the OP. Even a Grand power would need to drastically cut numbers to be professional. I'm just combining professionalism with ranged combat. Of course, the noticable problem here is projecting power is a true bitch; even with a large, dedicated airforce to transport me, my supply lines are long and overworked even for one regiment.

WHat kind of ranged combat are we talking about? Auto-loading rapid fire crossbows?

I think if you're claiming a Grand Empire you've got to give up something.
My nation is going to be an expansionist bunch of zealots who will go out of their way to crush any other nations in their way, and the entire economy is being sustained by the slaves and goods of the cities that will not surrender to us being sent back to us.
As it is I've got an idea for a rough nation
*First part to come* of the Three Gods
Power Level: Grand
Regiments: 100 regiments of lunatic fanatics, experienced generals, officers, and some experienced elite regiments, but most of them are a screaming horde that will pound any army in their way to death.
Tech: Mid-evil with magic, probably lower than the standard thanks to the nomadic background of the prophet's people.
Government: Theocratic Monarchy
Major Exports: None
Major Imports: Other people's land, people, goods, cities, etc.
Teritory: Southeastern Turkey, everything south of that, Eastern NOrthern Africa to Tunisia.
The entire nation is focused on the Jihad, but the leaders, and some of the people, are begining to want to settle down. However the people in charge are of the most fanatic variety and will not stop till all other nations bow before the Altars of the Three Gods.

Badly guided rockets and primitive crossbows, actually. Crossbows are way above this tech level, and since I'm mostly taking OTL tech and applying it militarily and domestically in unique ways, I can't provide a good reason to have a crossbow in this period that's advanced. I might have some form of steamsuit for my melee troops to explain the vast power disparity.. Or, to avoid GREAT LEADERS wrath, a primitive tank.

Looks nice.
I'd be roughly where Germany is supposed to be.
And I'll write up some details tomorrow, after my well-deserved sleep
edit:
though some details I can say know...
Grand power, but highly isolationist, smaller, professional army, but big in fixed defenses, landlocked with neighbours.

I want a penisula, not to big, but not to small. With the part that connects to the mainland small enough to be heavily patrolled.

Rogue, STFU
And with that in mind, I'll claim Scandinavia and Denmark

Pablo, if you're making a map, those islands around Iceland would be mine.. If I can pass the objections of the proles here.

I called Scandinavia. Do you want to split it up or displace?
France is called twice- by Tycho and Stormbringer.
Fisher- I don't think Italy is claimed yet. That fits reasonably well.

not a big chunk of italy. Just enough to be self suffecient and have easily defended boarders.
