That can be explained away.

"Over a thousand generations of Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic..." And "I will not let this Republic, which has stood for a thousand years..."

Its possible that ~ 1000 BBY, the Republic underwent a massive change, and by some, what was around before then isn't considered to be the "real" Republic. IIRC, right about then a giant war ended. The one that only one of the Sith, Darth Bane, survived. So its not inconcievable.
Or it was an underexagguration on Palpy's part. It might have been several thousand years and palpy just rounded to a thousand, since it's a nice, big, round number ;)

or maybe palpy made the republic equivalent of a bushism?

Don't even JOKE about that. I can see it happening if Berman or Braga got hired to help with a Star Wars TV show.
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Kill him. Kill him now. Don't ask any questions, just get to the killing.
Yes, and which methods would you prefer to utilize on the man in question?
This is no time to slow things down with creative violence. Just eliminate the threat. A fifty-megaton nuke dropped on his house should suffice.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

A FIFTY MEGATON BOMB to eliminate ONE MAN?

Better make it GIGATON. Berman has one hard head.

The guy is a politician, and a very good one at that. If you expect exact numbers, be disapointed. For example, Putin's speech about "thousands" of victims during Stalin's regime upset some people in the west who meant he should have said "millions" which is closer to the truth. Analysts said that "thousands" is a purely russian word unlike "millions" so politically, it had more influence and emotion behind it, which would be the reason why he chose it.

A cover up story, most likely, but the principle is true.

Sounds like a goat trying to pretend to be a gardener.

About the thousand years-slip of Palpatine, don´t forget, that Sio Bible said the same about the age of the republic.

Just because Sio Bible and Palpatine are both politicians doesn´t mean, that they are stupid or lying bastards, who don´t know, what they are talking about.

SPOOFE wrote:There are pros and cons to this. As Alyeska pointed out, this can be as good as Stargate and such. Lucas has VERY DEEP POCKETS. He'll just throw money at it until it's good. Plus, he's extremely unconventional... I rest well knowing that even if the SW series won't be GOOD, it probably at least won't just be a carbon copy of anything that's already out there.
Sad thing is, "good" is not an objective stand point when talking about drama. And the more I rewatch AOTC, the more I feel that it's watered-out and lacking when compared to the drama of, say, Empire Strikes Back. I liked Attack of the Clones. It had Palpatine's Bush-esque speech, for one. But the fact is that the extra money hasn't done Lucas a bit of good in my eyes. When formerly he was forced to seek creative ways to tell the story, now he can just throw money at it (as you said) until he gets the scene the way he wants it.

The problem is that I, and many others, don't really like to watch it the way Lucas intended, I suppose.
On the other hand, there IS that chance that it'll be just pure puke on celluloid, or rather, digital, most likely. Do we really want to see Star Wars sullied even more? It's already fallen from grace a bit... do we really want them to just REALLY beat the thing to pulp, and ruin the last vestiges of our memories?
Well, I don't. That's why I never saw the Star Wars Holiday Special.
I hope it's good. I think it stands a good chance of BEING good. However, at the same time, I dread it just being awful.
I know what you mean, and it's a valid concern. I think the human aspect of Star Wars has been squandered lately, culminating with Lucas' insistence that Portman and Christensen had "chemistry". To be perfectly blunt, no, they fucking didn't.

He worked on TNG and that was a good serious when he was not in over all charge
If Star Wars turned into TNG, that would be a horrible travesty. While the gangrene was not as obvious back then, all of the crucial brainbugs that led to the subsequent decline of Star Trek were there.
Couldn't have said it better. While TNG was okay, it really was the beginning of the end of Trek.
