VSDs were taking off from a planetary surface in "The New Rebellion". So it is safe to assume, that they can land.
And there is nothing to say against a little variety. It is a big galaxy after all.

The torpedos that luke launched went into the reactor and caused a chain reaction, the torpedos/missiles that the LAAT/i launched brought down the ship on their own punching through armor designed(hopefully) to resist trubolasers. The ship was already stricken before the fuel tanks went up.

Must have watching a differant edition of AOTC then me as the scene goes like this, the TU ship is hit and the LAAT flies past it, the scene cut to the ground to as the tanks fall to the surface and crush some droids.
Also the ship in question is not a warship(since when do transports need armor that resist turbolasers), also what Lukes Torps do is irrelevant (or forget the where I said without it's torps) a T-65 could probaly bring down a Techo Union ship (of the Model used AOTC) with its
wing cannons only.
