Yeah, he is. You see the bottom portion of Sideous' face in the cartoon, and it's different from Palpatine's.

Uh wouldn't this prove that its Palpatine's visage that is destroyed, not the actual face?

I'd personally be hopeful of such.

There's of course the problem that Sidious (for the part we can see) look no different from Palpatine in the Movies (IIRC).

That's what I'm thinking too. Besides Palpatine in the cartoons looks like he has spare skin hanging off the side of his face where his cheeks are meant to be.

We'll just have to get some shots of Sidious (TPM, AotC) and Palpy (RotS pre and post Mace encounter) and look at them.
