The problems with the truth detectors (what if somebody believes something to be the truth, etc.) has already been done in H. Beam Piper's Fuzzy trilogy. I'm pretty sure he even threw in a comment where someone in the truth-telling device (I don't remember the name and I don't have my book) claimed that he was God, and the machine declared that he was.

Now for something new, how about food that can be mass-produced in a factory without any growing or plants or animals needed? Pour nutrients in one side, and out comes something edible.

SDNW4 Nation: The Refuge And, on Nova Terra, Al-Stan the Totally and Completely Honest and Legitimate Weapons Dealer and Used Starship Salesman slept on a bed made of money, with a blaster under his pillow and his sombrero pulled over his face. This is to say, he slept very well indeed.
