Ghetto edit- The article did not clearly state whether or not they were going to perform the vivisection regardless of the class being present, so I withdraw that point.

LoL, I like the "ghetto edit", I may have to steal that.

Anyway, I see where you are coming from, and I agree that for the majority of students it would most likely be a "Huh, gross, nasty... hey Beth did you get asked to the prom" non learning experiment. However, only 8 kids went off campus, with their parents approval, to watch what is apparently a pretty quick procedure. If only 8 kids went to this, then that leads me to believe this was an advanced biology class, or these students were more interested in biology and medical procedures than your average student. Like I said, this would have been an opportunity I would have jumped on. Seeing how some members are upset with this, and I can understand why, this will probobly be my last post in this particular thread. :)

The only real objection to be made is that the high school teacher was probably freaking the hell out of at least a few of those kids. I feel more compassion towards my dog then my own mother (special situation...), so there is a good chance of specific trauma to some students. However, since it is just those 8, and they had approval, I must admit that these students either didn't care much for dogs, or at least tried to be mentally ready to see what they were to be shown.

Aside from that.. the dog was going to die anyways. Still does seem an odd teaching method... if a man was going to be put to death, would there be objection to him instead being put under with tons of morphine, and shown off to a few med students? Not saying humans and dogs are the same, but I do wonder how people would respond to such a thing..
