The TFN fanwhores understand war as much as pro-Federation debaters in versus debates do. Idiots like these people always make it blatantly clear that they don't even have a grasp of the most basic concepts of warfare. Instead of conceding that the Federation would be steamrolled by the Empire's unimaginable strategic advantages, Trekkie debaters focus on one-episode wonder miracle tech (as if the Federation would even have the time or ability to apply it to a significant number of their ships), or they envision pointless one-on-one ship duels in the middle of nowhere (they think the war would be won if a cloaked ship manages to take out *a* Star Destroyer). Instead of acknowledging that you need more troops than freaking PLANETS to fight a galactic war, and that occupying territory requires a lot of troops, TFN morons wank to their uber special forces and masturbate to ridiculous scenarios where capturing a planet's capital city automatically gives you control of the entire world. They're morons, just the same.

A single regiment of 108 battlemechs is considered adequate or even strong planetary garrison for a world with a population of six billion people. It's better to avoid even thinking of those numbers, because the stupid simply burns.
You mean Stackpole or the universe itself? Cause, the universe routinely describe planets as being guarded by a mech regiment, with multiple infantry/armour regiments on top of the planetary militia. Its still woefully undermanned, but understandable considering the fucked up status of the Btech military.
That particular numbers blunder is a feature of the Battletech universe, not something Stackpole invented. It just happened to suithis writing style very well, and he wrote very enjoyable stories while some other hacks put together absolutely vomit inducing shit.

The old days of the SL, where divisions were real divisions and a world could field a mech division, if not more is over.

It's especially glaring in the first Rogue Squadron book, because every single one of his space combat sequences reads as if it was written for battlemech battles.

Edi
Didn't he blatently spell it out in Wedge Gamble that the space combat was scripted from the X-wing game itself? It was a contending point on SB, whether this meant that the technical details should be disqualified.
I don't remember that, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I was thinking the same thing. It's like he has personally taken up the job of being Traviss's internet bodyguard, and has delusions of grandeur about just how influential he is with Lucasfilm.

He's a classic example of a blustering Internet would-be bully. Give him a tiny bit of authority and he thinks he's a member of the Gestapo and can walk around beating the shit out of dissidents, screaming "RESPECT MAH AUTHORITAH!!!"

So who wants to post a pic of Eric Cartman captioned "Dark Moose" over there?
