...Where the Hell is that? A Polyg community in Bumfuck Utah?

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Bullshit. He does not even advocate the destruction of the west, never mind actually committing violent acts in order to bring it about. The real fundie Muslims are convinced that the West is immoral and should be destroyed, at least in terms of its culture and way of government. Coincidentally enough, fundie Christians often believe pretty much the same thing: that our secular authorities must be brought down and replaced with the Tender Loving Rule of Christ at some point in the future.
There was nothing moderate about what you are describing. How do I know? Because I was at dozens of muslim marriages, muslims from different countries, and none were anything like that. Families were sitting together and dancing together, The bride was taking just as much part in the ceremony as was the man.
Good for them. And I can also say that I know fundie Christians who don't do that "woman must know her place" bullshit either, but that doesn't refute the fact that there is a large and virulent strain of misogynism running through fundie Christian thought.
Um, Mike. You do realize that there is a difference between religious practice and political belief, right? Like, say, a fundie voting for Bush to "preserve the sanctity of marriage." He's not a fundie because he's voting for that, he's voting for that because he's a fundie. Same thing goes for fundamentalist Muslims and the West.

Have a very nice day.

And how do we know that he's a fundie? Well, one strong indication would be that he's voting for Bush on the mentioned platform. I fail to see your point.

The point is a cause and effect relationsip between the two. One can still be a fundie and not vote for Bush, for whatever reasons. Just like it's possible to vote for Bush, and not be a fundie.

How does that refute what I'm saying? If he honestly believed that women should be treated as per Taliban standards, I don't think he could stand living here. The mere fact that all the women weren't wearing beekeeper suits means that he's obviously not at the extreme end of the spectrum.

I prefer the term "ninja suit". It's just funnier. As in "Dude, that arabic guy's wife just totally walked into a closed door because she can't see out of her ninja suit!"

Anyway, I'll throw my two cents in just to validate this spammy post: Does it help at all if you make the semantic choice of distinguishing between "fundamentalist" and "extremist"? Like a guy who puts his wife in a ninja suit but doesn't want to kill anyone if the former, but the guy blowing shit up (or cheering for it) is the latter?

Like if you tell me Bob's a Christian fundamentalist, whatever. Maybe I'll have a YEC debate with him and see if he spazzes out. But if you tell me Bob is a Christian extremist, I'll just stay away and run like hell if I see him coming with a prayer on his lips and a lumpy duffel bag in hand.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

That's a good point. The better word is "extremist", and I actually let some people pull me off topic by changing it to "fundamentalist" when in fact my original post spoke only of "moderates".
