I dunno, they didn't give details on the format, I was wondering what formats it supports as well.
Looks like you can put MP3s up to play during the slideshows too, I *think*.
oh, and Ace Pace:
Wii conference news flash: NES games at 5$, SNES at 8-12$.
Eh? They said games will be priced at $5, $8, and $10, no VC games will cost more than $10.

You're right - if you can do the iPhoto-style photoslideshow with music, they just sold a pile of units to nongamers already. Regular people buy Macbooks to do that sort of thing, and a Wii is just a tiny bit cheaper.
EDIT - WRT those videos - holy crapshelf. Even the silly 'wiichannel' stuff (which I basically don't care about) looks really useful.

Oy Praxis, I fixed that in a later post, I was listening to the audio stream and didn't hear Reggie clearly.

Does anyone know if the classic controller will be available at launch? I am asking this because it will be downright impossible for me to use the controllers seen in videos.

As far as we know, yes.

However, not all games will support using the Classic controller. Super Smash Bros Brawl will, as will all virtual console games. Most games will use a one-handed remote or two-handed nunchuck/remote combo though.

I thought SSBB would use the GameCube controller? Or can it use both / the Classic controller can be used in place of a GC controller?

That's the assumption. Personally, I'm keeping my wavebird.

Considering the backwards-compatability of the Will with GameCube games, that's a good idea. Though I don't know if GameCube controllers will be compatable with the Virtual Console.
EDIT: It probably wouldn't be, though.

The only reason not to is money-grabbing, although that's not out of the question. This is the only console I'll be getting for a while at least, but $60 for a remote/nunchuck set?
Ouch.

UK and aussie launch details revealed
Gamespot wrote:Wii arrives in Europe on December 8 for £179
Nintendo's next-gen console to launch in Europe for £179/249 euros on December 8, AU$399.95 for the Aussies on December 7.

Nintendo has announced that its next-generation Wii console will hit Europe on December 8 for a recommended retail price of £179/249 euros ($335.87/$314.57). The release date puts the region's launch a few weeks behind the US, where it debuts on November 19, and Japan, where it hits stores on December 2. With the recent postponement of the PlayStation 3 in Europe until March 2007, Nintendo's Wii will be the region's only console launch this Christmas.
Australia will get the Wii slightly earlier, on December 7, for AU$399.95 (approx. £160/$300.38). Both the European and Australian packages will contain the white console, one Wii-mote controller, the nunchuck attachment, and the game Wii Sports. In Europe, software will cost £34 to £39 (49 to 59 euros), and there will be 15 to 20 games available from launch. Among the confirmed launch titles are The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Need for Speed: Carbon, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam, and Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz.
As for accessories, Wii owners will be able to buy extra remotes for £29 (39 euros), a nunchuck for £14 (19 euros), and the classic controller for £14 (19 euros). For more details on the worldwide release of the Wii, check out GameSpot's launch centre.
So Stark, what were you saying about everything being more expensive in Australia?

Holy fuck...
I'm actually salivating. I've never had a Pavlov-ish response triggered by a console before...
I was hoping for $2-ish game downloads, but meh, if it lets me actually play Chrono Trigger on a console? Definitely worth $10.

Er, both Europe and AU prices are higher than the US? I'm still importing.

Nintendo has stated explicitly that the Gamecube controllers will plug into a seperate port on the side. They have even showed the plugs in public.
linka
Miyamoto himself told people to not throw away their gamecube controllers during the announcement of SSBB.

Yeah, thanks for telling me stuff I already know.
I was going to clarify my argument, but then I realised that what I was saying was pretty dumb, so nevermind.

Does anyone know of a site where I can view high quality demos of the Wii?

NOE is apparently in disagreement with NOA about the Wii being region-free. Clarification will be needed before we can take either statements for fact.

Er, but if NOA says it's region free, and I buy an US one...

Why would the Wii be region-free in one area, but not another? It doesn't make sense from a manufacturing standpoint.

And it's likely that NOA and NJ are lying when they say their games are region free? Unequivocal statements to that effect convince the shit out of me. I don't care about third-party games, and let's face it, it's cheaper to import from the US *anyway* so I still don't have a problem.
PS, I'm placing an order with play-asia tomorrow, so I'll pm you.

Well I believe NOA over NOE because NOE is lame.
Besides, they're already paying greater than $50 more than in Japan or the US, so I don't see why Europe wouldn't get screwed over in another way...

To clarify the region-free mess, here's how I'm having it explained to me by my NOA contacts (To clarify that, and show that I would actually have insider contacts....I run a major Pokémon website, Bulbagarden.net, and have occasional contact with NOA and PUSA PR staff).
Basically, the Wii drive does have a region code built into it, but games can be set to region free and be played on all systems. All Nintendo 1st party games will be set to region free.
As far as the online content goes, playing games against others worldwide won't be blocked by any region codes. It'll be just like the DS in that respect. With the channel materials however, including Virtual Console, what is available on those will depend on the region. There shouldn't be much actual variation in the content there, it'll just be more in the nature of localization. So don't expect a game on the VC in your region unless there's a translation of it for your region. Apparently, some older Japan only games (like the Fire Emblem series) will eventually recieve translation and release on VC in other regions. No word as yet if the region settings for these channels are determined by a hard coded setting, a user changable setting, or are set depending on your geographic location without user input.

And from what's already been reported, third-party publishers will be free to apply region coding to their games. Hopefully most will do the smart/cool thing and follow Nintendo's example.

I believe that in the case of the X-Box, most publishers haven't introduced region coding into the games where there isn't a language barrier, right? I'm not so sure that their practises when it comes to games from Japan trying to be played on foreign consoles (or vice-versa) however.
