Okay for those of us who are having trouble keeping up. Can someone summarize and tell me how many different civilizations we have now and what are they (in short). And more importantly how many do we need, politics is gonna be very interesting i think.

I'm pretty sure Starglider has been keeping track and has a summary somewhere, but it looks like we're going to come out with a number somewhere around 30 by the end of this, although probably within the first in game month or two a large number of those groups are going to get absorbed as people get bored or such. Plus we have more than one group being natural enemies with one another. I know my group is going to have a hard time relating to any of the theocracies or to Noble Ire's people. That's what makes it fun though

Have the preliminary national information, history, and OOB up. I'll round out the information and make changes as necessary to fine tune it.

I put a summary on page one of the OOB but it's out of date. I will hopefully get around to updating it late tonight, otherwise tomorrow morning. I'll add point calculations for easy verification.

Probably. At those numbers the 'game' part is almost entirely diplomacy, but I'm hoping for lots of cool battle descriptions anyway.

Oh well. I won't bicker. And while mine would have been extremely different, I don't feel like mirroring up either.
Time to research a plan B.
If we can have more than one robot race, more than one crazy swarm race, and more than one furry animal race, we can have more than one set of dwarfs.
Crossroads, the Space Bears accept your offering. We furry folks have to stick together.
I was really hoping for it to be clever and unique. It's hard to be clever and unique if someone already posted it. I wonder--my other guilty pleasure is Trolls. I don't think I've ever seen a nation of Space Trolls.

Call the trolls now Covenant, that way it will be others copying you and not the other way around.

I'm undecided between Space Trolls/Ogres and
mutha'fuckin' Space Dinosaurs. Either way, a whole lotta people iz gonna be eat. I'd like to hear what people think is a more attractive concept, since I definately want to do something that people think is totally sweet. Actually leaning towards Dinosaurs at the moment. Not a single Vile Space Lizard nation from what I see.
I mean seriously.
We don't fuck around.

T-fucking-Rexes in F-15s?

Alyrium did space lizards twice. One time, I will proudly add, ended with me turning their race into a smoking crater. The second time, went alright. So lizards are not really new persay.
As for which to choose, I'd point out that you're best off deciding on your own. This game is as open to the fantastic as it is the more mundane like Poles or Prussians in space. The degree to which they were or don't work is entirely up to you and the effort and creativity you put in.

Closes mouth.
...well damn. I can't very well accuse something that existed before the concept of mammalian life of violating a human software patent, now can I?

You're a Microsoft product. Of course you'll try. Might not hold up in court, but when has that ever stopped you?

Okay, called. I'm going to be Dinosaurs. Not just space lizards, I'll try to push it so it goes above and beyond what Alyrium will have done, just to be different. I think everyone loves Dinosaurs, and they'll love them more when they're being eaten by them. At least that's how my Jurassic Park logic goes.
I'll need to dig up that old STGODS thread and try to find his OOB, so I can do the
exact opposite.

The lizards in question were these bad boys, right? I think I found the pertinent STGOD OOB thread.
Mine are going to be distinctly more
Dinosaury.

I think so. Posted the STGOD1/4 threads for you to peruse if you wish.

Oh,

They quickly made themselves unpopular, I think to remember... Ah, the good old times.
I have to check, but I cannot remember in which STGOD I blasted planets...

Indeed we did.
Well, except for ground forces. We're discussing that matter at the moment. We'll get back to you soon.

My suggestion:
Rather than having general improvements, which are unnecessarily complicated, I'd make it so that points can be spent to buy higher quality ground forces. If this were 40k and you were playing the Imperium of Man, the Imperial Guard and PDFs come standard, the Titan Legions and Space Marines cost extra.
Then you figure how an x-point bought formation does against a y-size standard formation and go from there.

I must have missed that.
I saw that Thirdfain had some similar things still in his OOB and assumed those were still in force.
Is there are alternate system for country traits or are we not bothering with that stuff at all?

After discussion with Nitram, the following is how we're planning on handling ground forces.
You get a certain amount of free ground forces, a standing army, and a larger force of reservists. The specific number or percentage of your population is up to you to decide, though pulling numbers from historical armies would not be a bad idea. General guideline is that of your starting military, 10% are standing army, 90% are reservists called in as needed in times of war. General tech can work on buffing these forces.
For super-special forces (not normal special forces, those are considered to be free), you would spend points on those if you absolutely must have them. Naturally, the generic tech bonus does not stack for these.

General tech is still in, so the ground-combat thing is still good. However, buffs to ships must be purchased on a per-ship basis.
A bit of clarification also: Electronic Warfare has been bundled together at the moment, so detection and ECM would be roughly the same thing, unless we decided to move things to a Attack/Mobility/Active Defense/Passive Defense system.

We've left that as purchasable on the whole. Amusingly, everyone seems after internal security, not infiltration.
