Captain James Rushaan owned the IMV Lucky Trader, one of the larger independant trading vessels around. She was actually equipped with a full shipyard internally, though it mostly was used for repairing clients' ships and upgrading others. His ship could not help but intercept the badly garbled message.

The message clearly had the telltale signs of a damaged transmitter ... but it could be a trap. Probably not, though. The unwritten Law of the Stars had their own perogatives. And since they were nearly at the end of this leg of the patrol route... "Attention. We have received a distress signal and triangulated its position. I intend to investigate this signal. Any craft wishing to disembark should do so within the next hour."

Predictably, few ships left. Most were still refitting or their crews on R&R. A detour hardly would change that. And so, after posting an updated position report and the patrol route change on their netsite, the IMV Lucky Trader jumped into hyperspace and exited where a cluster of several ships now patrolled, including some very battered ones.

"Attention local-area vessels. This is the IMV Lucky Trader, do you need assistance, over?"

(Note: Lucky Trader is 55km long and armed enough to take on most heavy cruisers.)

The Grand Alliance

Violence. War. Rape. Slavery. All of the Great Powers indulge in these sadistic pleasures. It is time for the nations of the Galaxy to unite in common defense, and restore rule of law to the Galaxy.

Goals:
The Grand Alliance is a defensive alliance, created to stop agression and defend the victorious powers after the Fanatic Wars.

The Grand Alliance is also concerned with the clensing of pirates and the protection of merchnt spaceways.

The Grand Alliance is not an agressive institution. Nations will not be expected to contribute to offensive actions.

Obligations:
All signatories to the Grand Alliance Treaty agree to:
1. Provide military force in the defense of any other signatory who is subjected to unprovoked attack.
2. Contribute vessels to the security operations in the Azegart Empire, at least until rule of law is re-established.
3. Cooperate with other Grand Alliance members in defending convoys from pirates.

We have no interest in Azgert territory, we would find it impossible to gain acceptance with the population... Having fish people living and working with them, will be a little to much at this point in time

"Hoplite, we've got room in the internal dockyards, but as much as it pains us to say this, we can't make repairs for free. Every ship that docks requires power support and such, so we have to charge a docking fee to cover that. It's not that much for the latter.

Elsewhere:

"Change of plans. The mission just got canceled. The fresh existence of shields on the target means it's a no go unless we can disable them before hand.

"On the other hand, they also gave us a new job. We're supposed to smuggle small arms and such into former Azegart space, the idea being that it makes it difficult for the occupying powers to maintain their control over this space.

"In conjuction, we will also be raiding their supply ships. Again, no supplies means they have to leave. If they put ships onto protecting their convoys, then they have to move ships from other places, which again, makes our employer's job easier."

Also, IMV == Independant Merchant Vessel. The ship is not registered to any nation. Merchant vessels flagged by the Star Kingdom are prefixed with "RMS."

President Devlies looked at the reports on his desk. The Secretary of the Interiors reports stated that the UTRs shipbuilding capacity was being utilized to it's fullest. The vast majority of the ships being built were being constructed for the Free Star Navy and the Federation Navy, though they were primarily escorts and cruisers, no amjor capital ships. Some ships were flowing into the service of the UTRN and UTRDG as well though.

The Secretary of the Defense had reported that the Defense Guards joint training program with the FSN and FN was moving along well and the DG's expansion was moving on pace. Nothing major to report just a standard status report. Plans were under way to increase all ship classes by 40%.

The Secretary of the Navy's report was similar, the training programs for the FSN and FN were moving on pace and the wargames in the lost territories were proceeding on pace. Home Fleet was still at full strength and was drilling heavily. Task Forces 12, 41 and 43 had finished there excercises in first district and were being transferred to the new Fifth fleet stationed in the FSA. No further additions to Fifth Fleet were planned for under the newly approved naval budget.

Acording to the new budget the First through Fourth Fleets would all be brought back to full strength under the standard OOB., with an authorized 30% increases in DD and FF class vessels.

Fifth Fleet was now listed at a strength of three Battlecruisers, twenty six Heavy Cruisers, Twenty Light Cruisers, Fifty-Two Destroyers and Twenty Frigates. They would be performing fleet excercises in the southern zone for now.

Most important was the letter from the Star Kingdom, to this he responded immediatly. He'd already spoken to the senate leadership and they would approve the treaty if he choose to sign it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Star Kingdom of Serenity

General Ambassador Phong Nguyen has announced today from the Crystal Palace that an Entente Cordiale between the Star Kingdom of Serenity, the Corporate Sector, the Kzinti Patriarchy and the United Terran Republic has been signed. This is a treaty of mutual understanding and recognition of each power's aims of peaceful expansion and soverignity.

The Entente Cordiale has no provisions for a military alliance system between the four powers nor is it intended as an economic treatise. It should not be construed as an agressive, exclusionary alliance system but one to stabilize the region.
News Corporation News Network wrote:Chief Naval Officer Admiral Lord Calcite announced today that the Royal Armed Forces are rapidly making progress in training. In the last few months he has instituted a program of intensive, accelerated training programs intended to allow the Star Kingdom to face quantitatively superior enemy forces.

When questioned if the Kingdom had any long-term projections of war, Lord Calcite told reporters "No, the Kingdom has no long-term projections of invasion against her." Still, with the darker age the galaxy seems to be headed into, can the Kingdom afford to attempt to defend itself qualitatively? Stay tuned for the McHann Show tonight ...
